I took these photos moments ago using a polarizing filter to cut glare. The colors are not enhanced! These are from my back dock at Padre Isles.

Is your canal near Whitecap? I'm wondering if some of the waste water from the "temporary line" is getting into the canals. One day I saw a hose hooked up to a fire hydrant and then put into the waste water pipe....water was leaking along the gutters--which empty straight into the nearest canal.

The canal and flats facing Flour Bluff are much better now after the rain....but still murky. I haven't seen any dead fish [Isabella].

I live on Mutiny Ct., but Bowsprit and Yardarm are also the same way. I just went out to look and there are lots more dead Perch in the back.

That water is nasty looking, and the dead fish sad. Call /email the homeowners' association and let them know. They are responsible for having the oxygen levels in the canals monitored.

One canal off (and parallel to) the main canal, AKA right out my back door:

It doesn't smell good either...not as bad as red tide, but it has a definite rot odor.

Directly from TPWD on facebook..

Texas Parks and Wildlife - Harmful Algal Blooms Research & Education

We are aware of the discolored water out there. Biologists checked it out last week and found an algal bloom made up of a few nontoxic species that is likely depleting the oxygen in the canals. Very common in the warmer months. Unfortunately, those canals often do not have good water circulation and the blooms hang around longer than out in the open bay.
