Hi Guys,
I don't post much but surely enjoy reading your posts. A couple of buddies and me are planning to fish the Packeray Jetties on Wednesday, May 15....with artificials or bait, whatever works. Average age is 70+++ but we're a spritely bunch and looking to catch some fish.
Any hints on where to fish would be appreciated..i.e., north or south, channel or surf.
Thanks. |

Bring some tangaRAY! With the strong southeast winds this weekend the south Jetty would probably be the best if u want to fish the channel and north to fish the surf side! I'd free line some finger mullet if you can find any, and live shrimp fished any way! Good luck! _________________

Listen to BamaRed54 for your locations.
But a tip-of-the-ol-chapeau to you guys. If I am 70+++ and still making my way to the jetties, I know I have had a full life.
Enjoy and best of luck to you. |

Thanks. I'll be looking for mullet. I read the forecast about the wind but we go when we can...sounds like we need to fish the leeward side.
Where can we get a permit to beach park...we're coming in on 37 then 358 across the high bridge?? |

Hey....thanks! I was thinking maybe you could make a dive to locate the fish...and then herd them over to us...so we don't have to walk so far! LOL |

All good advice - and if you're getting bored soaking bait you can bring some silver spoons and gotcha lures for spanish mackerel. _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |

I usually have the most success at the jettie on whitecap road. Usually fish at the end. The trick is to have some of your group fish the surf side and the other the channel side once you find whatbside the fish are at the whole group to work that area holding fish and youll have a better stringer in the end. Also fish close the the submerged rocks as possible and if the fish are there they will bite immediately. Work the rocks up and down on either side til you find the fish. Good luck! _________________ Work is for people who dont know how to fish! |

I just wanted to say "Thanks" for all the information and help. The weather didn't cooperate much. It rained in the morning and we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast at the Whataburger waiting for it to stop. After the rain passed it was still very windy but despite that we had a great time just getting out. We fished the south jetty and saw one small red and one drum about 8-10 lbs. We caught nothing on lures or bait. We saw very little bait but managed a few pin perch by blind casting with the cast net...nothing interested in the perch. Probably the surf from the north jetty would have been the best bet...but there were an awful lot of surfers there.
Thanks again for the help! |

| Hope you can get a big seafood platter before you leave the coast. It can put the finishing touch on a day fishing. |
