The jetty was already crowded with Easter break folks but I managed 6 smacks in the beautiful green water. All except one were keepers but I only kept 3. All were caught on a 1 oz. crippled herring.

| The herring was a silver 1 oz. Be prepared to cast at least a dozen times before each strike. |

Hey kodos, nice macks! By the way these are the smack lures we made this past winter for fun. If you start going through tackle a lot with them, you may consider doing these. Its always rewarding to catch on your own lure!
Shown next to a small manolure for scale. They are the same weight.
We bought the lead shad-shaped bodies on ebay for ~45 cents a piece. drop of nail polish for the eye, bit of lure tape for the bodies, and a treble/split-ring. total cost of each one was less than a buck. We might spray paint a few different colors, as the tape will eventually get messed up from rocks and teeth. They help up well yesterday when the smacks were hitting them. _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |
