Just purchased a Walther PPS 40 S&W, great shooting little gun, also comes in 9mm. Can find it at Academy.

I always recommend a flavor of hammerless revolver. Very quick and easy, point and shoot and goes bang every time. Nothing to jam or think about, point and shoot. Having said that I settled on a Taurus PT709 slim and that's what I carry when I CC. Be careful with Taurus, they don't have a great reputation and the early 709's had some issues. Mine was the next batch and has been flawless in all my drills and shooting practices I used to run when I had a place to do so.

Ruger LCP in 38 + or if it absolutely positively has to fire every time look at a LCR again in 38+. Not sure about the weight but the ammo for the LCR weighs more that the empty gun. And the "R" can be a handful if your not used to shooting revolvers.

Keltec P3AT...Ruger built their LCP 'strikingly similar' to it, 10+ years later.

Mine has been packed with pocket lint/grit/etc. and fired first time, every time.

Gun show coming up over in Robstown on Feb 9-10. Go and pick up every small pistol that you see and find ones that feel good to you. There are some brands that in my opinion you should stay away from, but if you go with Glock, Ruger, S&W, Colt, Springfield, and a few others, you will be fine. I like the Ruger LCP in .380 and the Glock Model 27 in .40. Again, it all depends on how you are going to carry it and what feels good to you. I join the person above who suggested you stay away from anything with a hammer as it will hang on clothes. Also, if you can shoot one before you buy, you will be happier.

I like the glock 19 as well but i find that my Ruger LC9 with the beaver tail grip is easy to conceal and still allows all fingers to be on the grip while keeping a slim enough profile to carry concealed easy. I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure its cheaper than the glock but the glock does shoot better.

I never carry less that a 40 S&W or 45ACP. Anything less might just pi$$ em off. If I am ever in a situation where I have to shoot you can be sure i'm not going to do it with a pi$$ant caliber. Guess why the cops don't carry 9mm any more? Same reason the military is phasing out the 9mm.

That said I normally carry either a Taurus subcompact pt145 millineum pro (45ACP) or a Taurus pt140 (40S&W). The barrel on both is 3.25 inches. Not the smallest gun but definately easily concealable and carriable in a large effective caliber. T

You can still get the pt140 at cdnn.com new for 299.00. Comes with 10 round mags and you can order 15's with base extender. Best buy out there.

These are excellent guns and do not have any history of problems.

I have the Bersa .380 Thunder. It is a very good pistol, especially for ~$300. My wife is very comfortable and proficient with it and its highly accurate. She smoked the accuracy test with it. It may not have the velocity or stopping power of a 9mm or 40 but a few personal protection rounds of .380 will stop a threat.

I have been looking at subcompacts as well. The Ruger LCP is my leading candidate. I like the way it feels in my hand. Smooth so nothing to catch on, but has minimal sights and no safety (which is good). Trigger pull is long, but thats fine. Also looked at the S&W Bodyguard and the Sig Sauer P290 (probably nicest but also pricey). The Beretta Nano is good for a 9mm, but is a bit bigger. I am really focusing on something I can stash while wearing my typical texas attire -- shorts and a t-shirt or fishing shirt. In winter the Bersa can fit under a sweatshirt or in a boot, but no way I can do that in summer without someone spotting it.

There are lots of concealable holsters for the LCP or Keltec. I like the wallet holster as you can slip it in a pocket and it looks just like a wallet, yet you can pull it out if needed and shoot it even while its still in the holster.

If anyone has a used Ruger LCP or Sig P290 let me know. I also am looking at a Sig SP2022 9mm or 40S&W for home, but its too big to carry IMHO. Probably get a pocket 380 first.
