Anyone know of some good exercises to do that will help improve with long distance casting? I know technique is one thing but if you aint got the strength your technique is only going to get you so far. Not to mention being able to cast a long distance after fighting a good sized fish for a good length of time. Mostly looking for exercises I can do to help with my arm strength. _________________ Jacob McDonald

I dont know of any actual workouts, but I would think that you should focus a little more on your mid to upper back muscles over arms. _________________ I like fishies

Thanks for the tip. I had been using the Breakaway products since I was about 15yrs old and was making my own leaders around that time. I still have some of his old products that he doesn't carry anymore and some where the design has changed. I guess I'll just focus on the P90X videos for the abs. I have been working on my technique for about 13yrs using methods I've watched from others and from videos I found on the net, including some of Nick's videos. _________________ Jacob McDonald

I'm no distance caster, but I do love to lift (for strength, not size). It seems to me there are several areas for the mechanics of the cast.
You have torso twist, which is going to be abs/obliques/core muscles. You have one arm that's pulling (the butt) so you're looking at back exercises there along with a little bicep, rows and pullups and stuff like that will take care of you there. Then you have pushing motion on the other side, it's a high push so you're looking more for shoulder work such as standing military press (overhead press) and maybe some triceps stuff but the mil press really should take care of the tri work also. _________________ JJ

When in doubt, get a rig set up (leave the spikes folded in on your sand anchor) and go start casting. No better exercise than actually doing it... _________________ Why is it that these days sales people seem to be as honest as I am knowledgeable?
