It turned out well, you made the right decission. This time!
Couple of thoughts, if your friend had been carrying at the time, how would you feel right now if this nut job had left you guys (out of fear of the gun) and hurt or killed the next person he came upon?
Of course this didn't happen so you will never know, this is a good thing.
Not second guessing, just thinking how I'd feel in that situation.
Each situation is different, you can never know what the next moment will bring. |

Glad you and your buddy are ok. As far as trying to pick your shot, if absolutely necessary, going for a knee, arm, leg or specific non-killing spot all the instructors say...BULL.
If you pull the trigger take the perp out and aim at body mass where you have the best effective shot. Too bad but what choice would you have not knowing what the whacko really intended or what the result would ultimately be. Truck replacement or no I am not debating the issue but hopefully I am never in that position. I always carry when fishing, launching, boating or out in the boonies with wife, self or buddy. _________________ Mike |

@ Satlycuda
I don't know what would have happened if my friend had his gun. As for what he would do after he left, unfortunatly I am not trained or a superhero and I cant be responsible for someone elses actions. I felt with my lack of weapons and training I would leave it up to the police.
I admit that I felt bad for the couple after us when I saw him jump on their SUV. At that time we were talking to the cops and I saw units zooming down the bridge. I am ok and I wanted to let the fishing community here know that these types of things can happen and I am now preparing for them better to avoid such situations.

| One of the problems I have with companies that don't even allow you to have a weapon in your vehicle on their property is that it can potentially set you up for situations just like this. I wonder if you were hurt or worse and would have otherwise had the means to protect yourself, if your workplace could have/would have been held at least partially liable for your injuries. Their policy on weapons hobbles your ability to defend yourself when leaving the workplace. Say, your company didn't allow you to keep your firearm in your vehicle on their property. You exit the gate of the property and stop at a stop light. Some nut job like this comes at you with deadly force and attempts to take your vehicle or take your life. Due to your company's policies, they have diminished your ability to defend yourself. These are just random thoughts on the subject, but I always wonder about this scenario. |

I worked in a chemical plant and the last thing we needed was our work force carrying guns.
I feel that when places do not allow weapons, they take the responsibility to insure your safety. |

Ensure safety at the plant.... possibly but probably not. Security at refineries are a joke at least in my experience with various plants. And even if they did keep you safe in the plant, how about on your drive home? I see the point that is trying to be made, i also see why guns are not allowed in plants because of the potential hazard. I wonder if you would have a case if something did happen while on your way home. | The ironic thing is a lot of plants have employees park outside the gates, only to have your vehicle broken into. |

I didn't say anything about a workforce carrying guns. I said I have a problem with companies with policies barring their employees from keeping firearms in their vehicles on company property, even though doing so is legal in the state of Texas(castle doctrine). I understand a business can be run how they want and everyone has a choice on where they can work. I just have a problem with those kinds of policies to begin with. Because the friend of the OP was not allowed to keep his firearm in his vehicle due to company policy, his ability to defend himself was diminished when some nutjob decided to stick a pair of hedge clippers in his face and demand his property or forfeit his life... |

Looks like Texas Senate Bill 321 specifically addresses firearms/ammunition in employees' vehicles at chemical plants...
"Property owned or leased by a chemical manufacturer or oil and gas refiner permitted by the
Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and on which the primary business conducted
is the manufacture, use, storage, or transportation of hazardous, combustible, or explosive
materials, except that employees who have Concealed Handgun Licenses may store firearms
in their private motor vehicles in parking areas located outside of secured and restricted areas
that contain the physical plant, are not open to the public, and that are constantly monitored by
security." |

Kahuna, thx for the post and the warning. I have a CHL but wouldn't have done me any good because I never properly carry, maybe one day these posts will get through to my thick skull before it's too late. Good thing that moron only had pruning shears, would have been much more spooky if he had a real weapon. _________________ JJ |
