My flats boat feels neglected. She hasn't been out of the boat barn in months.
My wife had a couple surgeries and recovery weeks, so we stuck close to home. She's much better now and ready to go fishing again. But a sudden head cold kept her inside the last few days, sheltered from the chill winds.
She needs me to get out of the house, so I have received orders to go fishin'.
If you can bait your own hook, know how to cast, have a life jacket, operate a remote-controlled bow mount trolling motor, deploy a Stiffy pole without falling overboard and pay your share of costs (fuel, bait, ice and car wash), there's a boat and trailer anxious to get launched.
I'm retired, so most any time is time to go fishing. But when I go, I like to continue fishing more than I like to retreat promptly to the boat ramp.
Also, FYI, my wife and I get high enough from fishing. If you also can enjoy fishing without needing a few beers, let's fish. I need somebody stone sober in my boat just in case there is an emergency. (We might share a drink after the boat is back inside the boat barn, so I'm not totally against imbibing.)
And a last note for the out of towners just here for a weekend, I'd rather not serve guys who are looking for a free vacation charter trip. My purpose for posting this on the forum is to find anglers who can go regularly just for the fun of it. |

I know your situation. Retired than wife had two spinal surgeries and now I am back working to pay medical bills for weekly treatments. Wish I could join but relegated to once every other week if it works out.
Hope you find a good one. _________________ Protect our treasure PINS |

| It's funny Mr. Bob, as soon as deer season is over I was going to post the same thing but beer is allowed. It's too expensive to take a big boat out by myself anymore. |

I'm sure that you'll have more guys take you up on your beer-permitted offer.
Some mention about my position might be due, so as not to offend others. Unfortunately after years of fishing, I have seen way too many just-one-beer-or-two anglers drink too much. And that's OK as long as they are not the captains . . . provided that they can control their shouted profanities and unzipping in plain view to dispose of liquids overboard. Many times women and children are on the water, so their sensitivities need to be respected.
However, in the event of a potential emergency situation, our personal preference is to have stone sober shipmates on our boat.
We're not teetotalers. We enjoy a glass of wine now and then ourselves, but never on the water. |

Yesterday, one forum member, who responded to my Got Boat thread, went fishing with us. We went in her boat this time. Next time ours.
My wife was over her cold and eager to get fishin' too, so we all went for the day. After a delayed start, we drifted through potential sites but with no results. However, as the day drew to a close, we got into some specks, lots of them. My wife caught one on nearly every cast, probably 30 or so. Only one was keeper size.
One fish does not make a meal, so I switched terminal gear to pull in enough whiting for a meal.
The best part of the day was meeting our new friend who demonstrates to have as much passion for fishing as we do, if not more so.
We're sure that there will be more fishing times together.
Finding new friends and fishing with them face-to-face is a bonus to being a member in this forum. I'm really glad that I posted this Got Boat thread. Otherwise, chances are that we'd never have met.
A few others responded and I have exchanged PM with them too. Looks like we'll get to fishing some time soon.
To respect her privacy, I'm not identifying the lady we went with other than to say it's a blessing that she responded to my thread. |
