| the new rule -- which reduces the daily bag for recreational anglers from four red snapper to two and prohibits retention by captain and crew on for-hire boats -- goes into effect May 2. The recreational red snapper season opens April 21. During that 11-day window, the daily bag is still four. |

| That's pretty sad that anglers will be allowed only two fish. It's inevitable the commercial boys will target Be-liners and the take for recreational anglers will be down to 4-2 fish......very sad... |

The really sad part is the commercials WON'T have to target b-liners! At least, not until there is some REAL enforcement of the laws.
How many times have you heard of a commercial getting busted for too many snapper or too small of snapper? Not many.
I can recall reading about a couple busts last year. One of the busts yielded over 2,000lbs of snapper (many of which were too small) and the captain/crew had 46 prior violations of the exact same thing!
The commercials will continue to poach Red Snapper and people at the docks/markets will continue to buy as long as there is no enforcement of the laws. |
