Looking for some shads are they in the surprise packery

the shad were thick at the mansfield jetties sat and we hammered the reds with them oversized and slots.they would not touch a mullet for some reason.

Funny you bring up this subject because I was thinking about asking this question:

While I would like to use shad for live bait when I get them, they seem to be very delicate and more than happy to DIE right in the bucket.
Is there some trick to keeping them alive or is their demise a foregone conclusion and I should just be content with using their little corpses as dead bait?

these were around 4 to 6in long not sure exactly what kinda shad they were.we had no trouble keeping them alive in a bait bucket in the water.i kept maybe 6 or 7 at a time to keep them lively .

They are a lil tricky too keep alive.....The best luck ive had keeping them alive ( if they survive the castnet) is to keep them in a bucket with an airator, by themselves,and not overload the bucket. Changing the water often and kept in the shade but there is still collateral damage no matter what i do......War is hell! Laughing

Caught some nice ones this past weekend at fish pass jetties along with a butt load of mullet. Best way to keep them alive is try not to touch them,aireator and change water frequently

rob,water was off color and there was 6ft waves on the surf side we started out to fish in the 30s but it was a washing machine but not chocolate milk.we decided to head all the way down which im glad we did.we caught jacks ,macks,trout,giant ladys and reds all on the channel side on sat.the buggy whip never came out it was at blowin at least 30.sunday was a wash no reds and no shad to be found that place changes daily .
