I met Chatter Allen some years back, one hell of a trout fisherman and a member of The Ananias Trout and Redfish Club, his 15 lb tout was the largest taken on a rod and reel that I can remeber. At one time there was a picture of Chatter holding the trout at Marker 37, I'm sure Ernie might still have that picture around.
Chatter was one of a handfull that wade fished "The Graveyard" what is now the 9 Mile Hole back in the day.
From what I can remember he sure loved to fish a silver spoon with a white bucktail.
Glad I was around to be able to meet these "Legends" that fish the Laguna Madre and Baffin Bay back in the day. Those types of people were
great to be around.
Hey shorty, Thanks for bringing him up, brought back alot of memories.
Mike

Who remembers Bobby Rouse or Tubby Buster?
Bobby taught mt to fish in a 16' Van Noy skiff w/115 Chrysler, what a classic rig.
Remember those days running the gates along KRS !!

I didn't know Tubby but Bobby and I were very good friends and fish alot together with Larry Wilcox in the '80s.
I remember when Bobby was helping Doug Bird out from time to time.
Sure miss Bobby being around.

Yep, those guys were the real deal when it came to fishing the Laguna and Baffin, a good group of people. If you wanted to learn they would teach you, just don't ask where they were fishin'.
No GPS, trolling motors, power poles or 80 mph boats back then, just their self taught ability to fish. Not much of that self taught ability around today.

| I got to go with my dad on a trip to a Baffin Bay cabin that Chatter Allen and Smiley Davis had down there. They told us plenty of stories about Baffin and the graveyard. I remember catching a ton of fish on that trip too. Old coaches had to leave town to "unwind". |
