Last year at this time, I was sitting in front of a TV after cutting short a round of golf at the news that the United States had suffered the deadliest attack since Pearl Harbor. I remember being absolute FURIOUS, and utterly filled with rage that day. No sadness...just utter hatred and a desire to hurt those that did this. I lost a friend in the towers...and I think of him and his family every year on this day.

That being said, every year on September 11, I don't sit on my butt...I do what I was doing on that day I either play golf, or I go fish...today, I hit Bob Hall Pier.

I had my popping cork, 2 quarts of live shrimp that weren't monstrous sized, as well as some fresh whiting from the past weekend to see if any reds want to cooperate. Water clarity was a 7.8/10, slightly overcast, current running at North to south with a slight SW breeze.

I got my cut bait soaking and started working the popping cork/live shrimp...nothing until about 8 AM, then it was like someone turned on the Pompano switch...IT WAS ON!

The pomps were so agresive that they actually STRUCK my orange popping cork on multiple occasions...made me wonder if they'd hit an orange topwater! Anyway, I boxed several pomps, 12 total, and lost 2...one stupidly that was a MONSTER, I tried to fling it up on the deck wtihout using my net, and I clonked the side of the rail and it broke my line.

The other somehow managed to throw a circle hook...go figure.

The pomps were VERY nice, the largest a tick over 19" long, most were in the 15-17" range...and VERY fat.

No pics, was too busy catching...but I'll say this...IT IS ON!

I met a few very nice Corpusfishing forum members from Houston that were catching reds and pomps out near the T Head, I'll be interested to hear their report as well.

Are you hauling the pomps up with a pier net? Roy's used to sell orange pomp jigs from Florida that I bet would've been great in your situation today. I think they are a little less than a half ounce with the tail cut even with the back of the hook.

we fianlly got down to bob hall today and i got to meet bighead. i talked to him a good while as he was catching the pomps. it is so nice to put faces to those i see on here. a lot of people were very nice today . to us the water looked prefect. some told us that it was just so-so. after having chocolate soup in galveston for the past 3 months today was heaven. today we limited out on keeper red 22-28 inche range and about 15 pomps. took our neighbor for his first trip down and now he is hooked on yall too. thanks big head for a lovely afternoon.i havent had this much fun catching fish since last may when i caught a 4 and half pound flounder. then the soup set in galveston and messed us the whole summer there. coming back in october with family.

eksda - do you mind telling me what you were catching the reds on? we were going to come down and fish this weekend but it looks like its going to rxxx(the word that is not to be mentioned as to not jinx it for the locals) :o)

thanks bighead, i enjoyed talking and helping you that is what fishing is for.lady all fish that we caught yesterday were caught on live shrimp. most of the reds were caught on live shrimp or cut mullet. i hope that when you come down you have as much fun as we did.

I fished Bob Hall yesterday afternoon. From 2pm-8pm got one King, and i landed 6 reds site casting with mannolure. must have been over a hundred reds landed from the time i was there on the T head. Game Warden came out and busted people for haveing too many reds. (I threw all mine back for another day!) The reds were biting on cut anything! I was the only person throwing lures. My hookup ratio was not as good as thiers but i find it more fun to hit them with the lure! My friend came later in the day and got a Limit of King's also and a couple of Reds. One over sized! He wrote out the Tag but did not cut it out of his liscence yet and the game warden was on him like white on rice. If the game warden would have gotten there earlier he would have caught a ton of people transporting reds to others and come back and catch more. It was a horrible site to see them doing that!

BTW just cause the fish are biting doesn't mean that everyone and their mother, Brother , and cousin need to fish the pier this weekend!!! LOL j/k

not sure on the restitution. But i did hear the Game Warden showed up again today at BHP. It's funny that they only come out there when the reds are biting. Even though their are people keeping too many other fish too all the time
