My wife likes to fish. The only problem is that we haven't caught much since she has been going. We had been fishing Red Dot a few times. Only caught one Flounder and One Trout there. Tried a few other places that are easy to get to but no luck. My wife doesn't want to wade fish and I don't have a boat. I need some ideas of where I can take here to catch some fish besides HEB. I have tried Dimmitt Pier. Under the JFK Causway. And the West side of Packery Channel After the Causway. Are there any good places to drive up and start fishing?? When should I take her?? Can't be out late. Have to be home to take care of the Mother-in-law after 5 p.m. (Alzheimers). _________________ Where's the March Hare???.. |

The last week or so, there was a huge herd of black drum in the Packery Channel Park area. Not sure if they are still around....anyone? _________________

We have been using Carolina rigs with dead bait, fish bites, Gulps, live shrimp, mullet, and Floats with with the same. She doesn't have the hang of throwing artificials yet. She mainly fishes with a Zebco 733. She tried my Diawa baitcasting rig this weekend. She needs time. _________________ Where's the March Hare???.. |

you could use a cork and live shrimp at the jetties. or even a small weight. saw some nice trout being caught yesterday morning along with skip jacks, jacks, ans some small snapper. they were also using croaker and minnows. _________________ Chris Gonzales |

take her to the packery bridge on 361 i think. I was fishing there last Thursday and caught 3 keeper trout. I was fishing dead shrimp on a jig head with a 10lb mono leader.
if you go during the day hopefully there is room right under the bridge so she doesn't have to get wet. bring lots of jig heads you will lose some on the rocks.
Good luck and post pics of what you catch. |

What place would that be? I might be able to get a babysitter once in a while. _________________ Where's the March Hare???.. |

How would you hook that on a Jig Head? Thread it on just like a Gulp? Post a pic if you can. _________________ Where's the March Hare???.. |

Corks and live shrimp are just fine. Artificals will come later when you both start wading. I never use snaps or swivels. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

Oh, I wade. She doesn't. Went out to Dead Man's Hole and Kates Hole this Saturday morning with a friend. Didn't catch anything but an undersized snook under the little bridge by 361. Waded for 3 hours and didn't see anyone pull anything in. Bad day for all that was in eyesight. _________________ Where's the March Hare???.. |

if she just wants to catch a few fish... wait for a nice day w/light winds and go to the beach... pack an umbrella and a pic-nic basket and cold drinks... the whiting are easy on dead shrimp and fishbites. if it's clean there's also pompano, but a little farther out.
remember to shuffle...
a 14in whiting has a decent fillet, and being they're drum, they taste good. _________________ the creepy uncle that scares the kids.... |

The surf can be a great way to put someone fresh to the sport on fish that can be kept for the table (whiting). Walking out to cast a little further can be an intro to wading. If the bite is a bust, you're still at the beach!
The pic-a-nic can be good for brownie points.
