I used to go there about dark and fish until midnight usually catching a few keeper specks and sometimes sand trout too. I would regularly wake my wife up after midnight to the smell of fish being fileted in the kitchen.

We weren't married long.

WOW, talk about memories. Really honed my fishing skills there back in '60's as a teen. My Mom worked nights at a local hospital and would drop me off when she went to work at 10:30 pm and pick me up when she got off at 7:00 am. Fished the lights with live shrimp under small cork with no weight and "speck rigs". My friends and I would take sleeping bags and take a nap before sunrise. Seldom caught anything bigger than 17" but on ocassion a lot of them. Actually caught one of the two biggest trout I have ever caught just north of the pier wading some old blown out piers. On a bucket of shrimp, I had only landed one small trout. Had one giant shrimp left in the bucket after a long wade and finally had to use it. Hooked it on, threw it out and it never stopped. Set the hook and landed the biggest speck I had ever seen -- 10+ lbs. and 30"+. Had no boga back then, took it home and weighed it on a bathroom scale. Go figure.

Isn't it interesting how many others grew up on that pier? I also was dropped off as a teenager, or rode my bike to fish there most or all of the night. I remember the fishing, and also just the sound of the bait aerators, the cigarrette machine, and the taste of a cold canned coke from the baithouse.

It was great to just go back and stand on the pier again and talk to the current owner on a recent evening.

Funny, that pier has a more relaxed feel for some reason than any other I've been on before or since (not that I fish that much from piers nowadays).

My co-worker lives in the one of those appartments on Ocean Dr. that has a pier. Hes former marine and big into guns. He was out on their pier one night and some vato came up to him and said *in my best vato voice* "Ill cut you fool!" My buddy looked him square in the eyes and said "um, no you wont fool!" Then proceeded to pull out his 44cal and said vato went running Razz
