I'm thinking of getting a Kayak. I need some ideas of how to set one up for fishing. Maybe you would share some of your inventions to make the Yak more comfortable and fishing friendly. Thanks! _________________ FishLady

Yeah - I took the jump recently myself.
Join Texaskayakfisherman.com and read in their rigging section. More rigging ideas, how to's, and pictures than one can possible digest.
Tyler - I don't think this is a breach of protocol, but if it is let me know. |

One of the things I do to all my yaks is build what I call a Rocket Launcher behind the seat...Keeps the reels outta the splash and still allows for easy access...

Most important is to start off with the right flush mounts, where the 1.25" PVC fits snug. Besides that, its pretty much self explanatory. |

Most of your newer quality yaks now days come pretty much already set up ready to fish. You may just need to get a yak drift sock and milk crate & your ready! _________________ -STAY THIRSTY MY FRIENDS!- |

I have rigged up two yaks this spring. Each one I put a depth finder, anchor trolley and a modified version of Kingz's rocket launcher and flush rod holders. I made mine much higher because the reels were digging into my back. I do a lot of drifting with a sock so the anchor trolley comes in handy. There is a lot stuff on youtube when you ready to rig your yak out.

They are Cabelas Salt Strikers. I used to like them but after two years the gears and bearings go out. I will stick with Penn and Shimano in the future. The Penn Battle is a awesome reel so far. I launch at a secret location by Dimmit Pier |

The first step after getting the yak, is to get a milk crate and zip tie some pvc pipe for rod holders, if you don't wanna do the rocket launcher thing.
The crate is great for holding all your other gear and supplies.
As mentioned a drift sock is a must have down here. |

| One piece of equipment I won't go without is a stake out pole. So much faster and easier than an anchor in shallow water. I also take a soft sided cooler inside the hatch to put my trout in during the summer. They just won't last long on a stringer in this heat. |

Wooden broom stick (the kind with the metal end that can attack to a broom head or a mop, etc), lowe's, less than 10 bucks, best stakeout pole. Very strong, the metal end digs in very nice the sand/mud, it floats, and doubles as...get this...a broom stick. _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |
