|
|
| just saw on the news about a man from brenham who had been fishing at port o connor last weekend and got the flesh eating bacteria there. they have had to take his left leg off so far and they are hopeful of a recovery. people need to be aware of this especially if you have open cuts or get a cut or scrape while fishing. we had a friend who died of it back in 2000 and would not like to see anyone else with it. have fun but be aware too |

| Just a little FYI, next time you are in the doctors office, have your Feritin level checked. Vibrio likes iron rich blood. My husband lost his index finger to Vibrio 9 yrs ago and he got it because his Feritin level was too high. 1 in 4 men in America has high Feritin levels. |

| i am female to begin with. i know that the bacteria can be everywhere . hospitals are notorious for infections but bays are where it is also. all i am trying to do is to warn others to be careful. last yr a woman in high island area who had diabetes was cleaning fish and she got it and died. |

Was your husband in otherwise good health? I've heard about elevated levels of Feritin, but most cases also involve a compromised immune system. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

| He was in great health except for "iron overload". |

They have also reported that any consumption of alcohol can make you more susceptible to it as well. With the Port Occonor area getting a better flush why is there more cases each year? I would assume more stagnant water would be worse. _________________ Take a kid fishing, best investment for them and our future of fishing. |

It's a natural part of the bacterial fauna in all of our waters. The water doesn't have to be stagnant to have vibrio. I remember one case from the surf even. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |
