your email was hacked because you gave somebody your password. You must have clicked a phishing link and entered your login info.

The best way to keep this from happening is never click ANY link from ANY email and enter ANY of your email address. If you wish to login to your BANK/ PAYPAL / EMAIL/ ANYTHING PERSONAL. ALWAYS type the links in directly and login from there. Even if the page looks legit if its clicked from an email its 90% a spoof email!

the best free virus scanner for win 7 is Microsoft Security Essentials and its free!

Yahoo claims my email was hacked through them. I never click on anything that has nothing to do with me. Man I get so much training on computers because i work for the govt. Its annual and bi-annual. There is alot of lazy crazies out there looking for a free meal ticket. I will check out the security essentials....thanks Rob for the info. I hope this thread helps out others.

Go to this site and the guy (gizmo) will tell you what the best free software is in almost every category, firewalls, antivirus, rootkit detectors, trojan removers, etc.. He will also give you links to the best free software. I use this site for all my software needs and have never had any problems.

Yahoo was hacked mid week last week. They got a little over 500K logins and passwords. The problem is once the get into your machine it is very difficult to get them out - very very difficult.

If want to be secure use passwords that have letters, numbers and characters. Also use different passwords for anything that may/could contain personal and/or finance data.

Gmail is pretty secure but the hard facts are lots of people on the web are trying to steal your data and money. They are muchless likely to "crack the code" if you make it hard for them.

If you dont want the world to know it, see it or have it, dont do it via the web.

This has happened to me a couple of times before..... One time it sent out messages to everyone about cheap viagra, the next time it was some other spam....

Usually its because theres a keylogger application that was installed on your PC. According to my IT guys, 95% of the time that happens because you click a link on facebook that sounds interesting, but instead it runs a little api and installs itself. They used that to get my mail password and my amex CC # when I bought something. Amex flagged a suspicious purchase right away and didn't authorize the transaction so no harm done, although I had to get a new number. My password is virtually unbreakable without a keylog or server breach, and I change it in a pattern I know so I will always be able to figure it out.

I installed a free virus/spyware app called APG and it works well. McAfee and Norton didn't catch either instance of these spyware apps. No problems since. Not a week goes by where one of my friends on facebook doesn't post a link which APG flags as a known trojan horse spyware app..... just stop clicking on vague links like "Video: You won't believe what this woman did...." as they are just spyware.....

Your problem may have been from the Yahoo mail security breach. I changed my password the day that occurred to be safe. But it also could be from Facebook links too....
