My wife and I decided to take a half day off of work and head down PINS with the awesome weather window that was shaping up. I got off at 2 headed straight home to load up all the gear that I could fit into my truck.

I got everything loaded up by 4:30 and was ready to go..... until I pulled out of my driveway.... PPPSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! My right rear tire spilled its guts all over the place. My first thought was to just put the spare on, which would have been great except for the the fact that the guy I bought the truck from forgot to mention anything about a spare tire lock....GREAT! This trip is not looking so great. So with no spare and a tire shop up the street I decided to take my chances and drive it as slow as possible right around the corner. As soon as I pull in the tire comes off the rim and wraps itself around the axle. So the guy has to change it out in the middle of the parking lot. Poor guy, it was freaking hot.

The Damage

Then I was informed that my tires were 12 years old and that they all needed to be replaced. which I figured would happen. So I go to pay and am 6 dollars short, thankfully the guy says I can square up with him later. That guy rocks. Thanks Oscars Tire shop.

So we head out FINALLY around 6:30. Hit the beach to find it a little more windy than we had expected. Picked our spot by deciding to stop where we had just enough time to rig up 3 baits and paddle them out.

We let the baits sit till a little after midnight with no action and bring them in and call it a night. The moon was absolutely stunning as it came up on the horizon.

ALMOST as awesome as the sunrise...

So we get what little bait we have rigged up and I net some pony mullet. cut them up and cast them out to the second gut. We entertained ourselves with whiting (all small, too small to keep) after whiting. Not long after the rod starts bouncing and my wife reels in a small shark.

Re-deploy fresh cut mullet and almost instantly she gets another.

It went dead for a while and nothing for a few hours. During that time I saw bait being obliterated just beyond the breakers. So of course I jumped in the yak and chased baitballs. break off after break off... crazy. Switch to wire leader and throw a few more casts hook several skip jack and a freight train that broke me off pretty quickly. Smacks were chasing the lures but couldn't get any to take it. Whatever, head back in, rebait. Minutes later bouncing rod and I get a small shark too. All 3 of these were about 2 1/2 feet. They were all released to grow big and bite my hook later.

My wife suggests running a whole pony mullet out by where I had been chasing bait in the yak. I figure what do I have to lose and go for it. Run
out about 250yards and drop the bait. We nap under the canopy and wait, and wait, and wait... you get the picture.

The bite was pretty much non existent so I start loading up and cleaning up camp. My wife wakes up and says "I am gonna give it one more try on the small rod." Like the sharks knew what she was saying and wanted me to have a very happy wife, the 6/0 with a whole pony mullet screams out.

HOOKED UP!

A little while later we bring in a nice specimen, as Oz says "pesky blacktip" lol.

Was a little over 4' long but a fun one none the less. This shark was quite the acrobat too. Pretty neat to see.

We walk it in the surf and off it goes pissed off back to terrorize more mullet.

All in all we had a great time just being on the sand together and were blessed with a cool experience.

Water color was great and weed was very minimal. Hopefully it stays gone for a while and the weather stays good.

Until next time...
