I know I have caught several gar on the saltwater side of the Nueces so this isnt ALL the way off topic...lol. I am going to be taking some time off next week and hope to take my 75 year old dad Gar fishing. Dont be fooled by his age this man is still going very strong and works almost daily (Thank the good man above). I usually fish Choke Canyon, Bayside, or the Gudalupe at Tivoli. Does anyone know of any other spots we might have good success at? Maybe a rental house on the River or anything like that I would be interested in too. We would prefer a place we can camp out at for a day or two. We no longer have a boat so it would have to be bank fishing. Thanks all in advance, any tips would be greatly appreciated and would make pops happy if he could hook on to some good eats! _________________ I like fishies |

My bud came down for his birthday this past weekend and we caught these two Saturday
and these two Sunday
At the north end of Lake Corpus on jugs though but if you can get to the bank there are plenty to catch. I recommend using cut carp if you can catch some or just about anything fresh _________________ A country boy can survive

| I have seen folks catch them off of the copano bay pier - stands to reason you could catch them wading the shoreline there as well |

Oh you may think they are ugly, but they sure are good eating. By far one of my favorite frying fish. I've never had it grilled or blackened though.
Thanks for the info, I have seen them pulled out in areas of Copano too and I have caught many near the mouth of the Nueces river back when I used to have a boat. _________________ I like fishies |

sorry about that guys, I fixed it now...
I like to cut them in small cubes and boil them in crab boil till they get firm then pan fry them in butter. When they are done sprinkle a little more of the dry boil mix on top of them...excellent! _________________ A country boy can survive
