| I looked through those photos a bit myself while I was there, neat old pics. I ended up buying 3 glass display cases, and a little bit of tackle. |

| How far back do yall go? Who remembers when Gulf Sporting Goods used to be a part of Gulf Hardware there on Leopard by Hank Snyder Office Supply. That was a while back. |

| I only had the pleasure of meeting Bob a few yrs ago. I would buy him lunch and take it in just to hear his stories and watch him work, wrapping rods. What a talented man he is. Yeah, Bob's doing fine, I just talked to him on the phone yesterday and supposed to see him saturday. I would go in on Mondays usually and he would always ask " how'd you do John?" I would answer " need help Bob" He would respond " the fish just don't like you John" haha. Some people come along in life that really make an impact on ya, he was it for me. Glad ya'll enjoyed the pics. |

| Bob is a legend in the Corpus Christi tackle business. Yep, I go way back with him at Gulf Hardware. Always has been a "cool breeze' and very interesting. I have always liked his stories of fly fishing Conn Brown. I hope him the very best in health!!!!!!!! |

Seeing Gulf Sporting close really ends a chapter in fishing in this area. Years ago Bob rebuilt reels in the hardware store down on Leopard Street near the courthouse. I forgot the name of the hardware store, but Bob was the man when it came to working on Penn and Ambassadeur reels.
The picture on the wall of his store of the girl in a bikini top holding a really nice trout is my wife. There was also pictures of my father in law and brother in law in there too. They never put my picture up, I never really could catch the big ones like them, they only took me along for gas money and to clean the fish. Last time I was in Bob's, he was still telling me stories about my late father in law, he was another local legend.
Hope Bob gets better, he is a really nice guy, does excellent work, and seem to enjoy the people as well as his work. |

That's too bad. I remember Bob having his shop at the hardware store down leopard by the railroad tracks. My dad bought me my first rod blank from him to build over 30 years ago.
I walked in his current location late last year and he still remembered me and asked about my old man. I don't have that rod anymore but we do have a 2pc surf rod he built for my dad some time ago.
My hats off to him for the memories and contribution to the fishing community.
Good luck to him. |
