So my lovely wife is going to be giving birth to our first child, a boy, within the next +- 7 weeks or so. While every day I am excited and grateful to the Lord for blessing us with a baby...I will be honest: some days the idea of raising him just scares the living **** out of me. Shocked

I was just wondering if you dads on here had any advice you can give me about raising a kid. How do you discipline? What works and doesn't work? How do you make sure he is not one of those kids that is afraid of everything? General advice?

Thanks, y'all!

Just be there... For both of them.

I had my first kid in July of last year and found out yesterday we're pregnant again. I'm excited, but a little stressed. This was the last thing we had planned.

Make sure that when she is in the Hospital to be super extra tolerant and let everything bounce right off you. Whatever you do, don't tell her anything about how she looks except beautiful. I got in trouble for giving her a weird look. (in my defense, what I saw was weird).

It's truly amazing though. I had never experienced such pure love between myself and someone on this Earth. Now my daughter is 10.5 months old and so much fun. She's truly amazing. You'll do fine.

Good luck.

Best advise I can give is take them hunting and fishing and try not to be too serious about. When they are young just catching perch from a pond or pinfish in the bay is exiting and will help them build a foundation that will keep you close. I have 2 boys 25 and 15 and nothing gives me greater pleasure than the time we have spent together. When they catch their first keeper trout or shoot their first buck it is an adrinaline rush that you will never understand until it happens to you.

Work hard to support them and your wife but play harder to have a partner for life. Your in for a hell of a ride, Enjoy it.

To start, your number one responsibility is to take care of mom, she will be busy doing her thing with your son. She needs someone to look out for her, to make sure she gets the rest and recovery she needs. And, that is a truth from now on.

There are no secrets, there is no manual. It's a bit like fishing, you have to learn to read the water for yourself. Pay attention and learn how to read your child.

Congratulations! Welcome to world of parenthood. The most exciting, the most anxious, the most trying, the most tiring, most expensive and most rewarding adventure in life. Good luck. Wink
