Ouch!
As far as I know vineger won't work for Asp stings but I read somewhere that applying cellophane tape to the sting site and stripping it from it helps remove the spines and ease the pain, a bit.
I'd rather be hit by a Jelly, minus a man o war, then a Asp. _________________ "Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life son." |

Wearing panyhose in the water will prevent you from getting stings... although it really is a hard one to explain.
I learned it from watching a show about box jellyfish in Australia... not fishing the morning after a night of moonlighting! |

If still hurting when returning home, fill bathtub with as hot of water as you can stand and soak stung area in it.
This also works, perhaps even better, for stingrays |

Vinegar will heal the pain outside the water.
Many of the methods that do not work are also some of the best known: rubbing alcohol, ammonia, meat tenderizer and even urine. They lack the acidity to nutralize the nemotodes. Fresh Water is a no no also, it will change the ph of salt water to fresh and the pain will increase.
Stin
In the case of Man O War, it will help but, more important issue would be toxic shock syndrome. Difficulty Breathing, Hives, Cramps and such. |
The pain is caused by a protein fired through the stinging cells. Meat tenderizer works by breaking down proteins so, yes meat tenderizer works. I use it at least once a week to treat stings. As for panty hose......maybe on box jellies, but take it from someone who tried. It don't work on sea nettles. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

Didn't really start to hurt until I got home. dealt with a calf muscle that would not stop spaziming out for a day or two. Oh, and I didnt catch a thing that day either. lol |
I will take jellyfish over asp any day. Asp stings are brutal! |

I take it that you've never had a "good" sting from a man o war? Comparing them to most other jellyfish is like comparing a Yugo to a Porche; they're both cars, but that's where the similarity ends!!!! _________________ Dave

| Having been raised in Robstown and San Antonio, I've had my run-ins with asps. I'll take the man-o-war over the asp any day. |

Don't know what kind of jellyfish I've been stung by. Had em wrapped around my legs and arms. Would just rub it with sand and salt water and go about my business. Hard head spne imbeded in my hand however not so much fun. My dad got stuck with a stingray once. By far the worst thing he's ever been through. _________________ I like fishies |

OK, I give up!! What's an ASP? I know of a snake called an asp, but I'm not quite sure that's what you are talking about here since the 'thread' is about jellies.

| A fuzzy little worm that crawls along tree limbs, usually ash trees. All different colors. I would not tell folks to do this at home without experienced supervision, but if you pick them up by the scruff of the neck and turn them over, you can see on their tender under-belly the double-double row of prickly black spines that have the opportunity to make your life absolutely miserable for many hours to come. If memory serves correctly, about an inch to an inch and a half long, round on the front end, tapered to a narrow end on the tail. Have I got this right, mates? |

While in Panama I saw one that I assumed was a small jungle rodent. I could only imagine what kind of pain or death that beast would inflect!
At first glance it looked like a cuddly hamster so yep, believe you got the description correct Baitboy, just in a much smaller version. _________________ "Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life son." |

This is a asp. I was hit with 5 of these when I was young out of a Loquat tree. They ended up on my neck and back. It was NOT good.

My wife works in the E.R. And they make a paste out of meat tenderizer and vinegar, then take ibuprophine
Oh and night wade fishing is the most peaceful way to fish, plus I usually catch more from one hour before sunset to a couple hours after |
