Came home from work today and walked into my backyard and there was this bird that resembled a quail but it was a foot tall. It was light colored with red near it's eye. Before I could do anything bambam chased it and it fluttered over the fence. I got my bird book and the only thing I can find that closely looks like it is a Spruce Grouse but it looks more like a Chuckar in color. Neither belong here. Maybe it escaped from someones bird habitat. I wished I had got a pic. I feed wild birds so maybe it will come back. it was cool.

He came back and I have him in my garage. Hopefully I can find someone with an aiviary who might like this guy. Truly an awesome bird. Imported from Euraisa in the 1800's.

I wonder if hunting chacalacas is where the term "boom chacalaca!" Came from.

I've been invited on some canned quail hunts were those guys were thrown in to the mix. If you are partial to him, be careful which aviary you give him to!
