]Warning: the following report contains a exciting fishing adventure do not read if you are at work or there is a lightning storm outside! A/T is not liable for injuries you receive from attempting to recreate this adventure...unless you catch then its totally my fault
Finally! its been a while but i figured maybe im getting to picky with what is a *warning* worthy trip...anyways here we goooo!
Got a Late start to the day but i didnt have a chance at sightcasting with the winds to i enjoyed the sunrise while driving through the backroads..windows down and some johnny cash spilling out the speakers life is good...
Got a chance to look at the fence they put up and this sucker is permanent with no chance of launching from drum point anymore *sigh*
water was calm but winds were already 10-15 which wasnt a big deal getting to my location downwind it was actually very very nice and i havent had a nice paddle like that in a while....
I got to my spot where the reds were busting bait and drum were thick as fleas...water had dropped since the last time but i knew the increasing winds would push water towards me so i staked out and went for a walk to explore this new area and teh bottom structure camera in hand...
anybody know what kind of birds these are..i have decided to learn about things and stuff like that hahaha but seriously i need to learn whats out here wouldnt hurt....
also saw a ton of these little boogers, could have just picked them up if i wanted to
i took it as a sign that the water was up and it was time to get after it...
and i really didnt have to wait long...
action was pretty crazy i was having doubles-triples-all four rods going at once- 2 on one leader
a few of them even decided to some pay me a visit
nothing like breaking a funk them slaying some drum...i swear these fish are like my pets i could paddle miles offshore....and would end up catching a drum on a top water plug....
all and all it was a good day...with 30+ drum caught ..lost a monster trout at the yak but wasnt too bummed ...
the tough part was making it back to launch..2.5+ miles upwind? now i remember why i hated the idea of fencing off drum point and the test of weather im ready to deal with the consequences of fishing a stupid windy day..
honestly i dont know if it was worth it...brutal is a understatement...in the cove protected it was 30+ steady...once i got into the bay it was well over 45+mph unblocked with some chop....i had to walk it all the way back lugging my kayak behind me getting pulled with every wave that slams it...
about halfway through this walk something interesting happened..
the water exploded and i could see the gold back of a red kind of poke out the chop...i tossed the yak on the sand grabbed my baitcaster and walked in to where it was....when i got closer i could see a cloud of red....blood?...
i looked around and about 10-15 yards down there was a bull red sideways trying to swim ...wasnt working out to well because he was missing his back half..looked like a big shark caught him...i backed off and walked shallow the rest of the way back...3rd shark encounter out there..doesnt make me feel better haha....
aside from that it was just a long annoying walk against wind but in the end mother nature cant take me down no matter how hard she tries and she has triiied....
all that matters is im happy and mr turtle is happy...ill be back out once this wind dies ...
till next time
Life is good amigos!

| Dang dude another great report. We were on opposite shorelines but that bay was MEAN. We did fish the same area as one of the guides and had a little trout action but tomorrow we may target the drum. |
