How many folks on this particular board recieved a survey in the mail last week. The letter said the you were were of a slected few in so many words. I was selected because of a fish survey. I figure I would get this started just to see the capacity. Others will chime in soon. Should be interesting. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

If TPWD wants public opinion (which I thought the scoping meetings did a good job of showing) why not put up an online survey where everyone is invited to give their thoughts on the subject? _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

That's way too easy and doesn't cost enough money. _________________ E Pluribus Unum |

The way I understand it, when i got the thing it says that you were contacted because you participated in a dock survey sometime in the past.
This is a good way to get the opinions of folks that actually use the resource.
You'd get all sort of special interest groups and goofballs with an online survey. |

Say I launch my boat after work on weekdays and choose not to fish weekends. There is a very good chance that I will never encounter a survey crew although I obviously use the resource. Many of us locals fish on this schedule and therefore are automatically excluded from being included in the group that received the surveys. And so what if the SIGs fill out the online survey. Their numbers would surely be outweighed by the general public. If TPWD wants the public's thoughts on this (which again, we went through with the scoping meetings) then everyone should have the equal opportunity to weigh in on it. BTW, do you honestly think that some of the WPP guys were not included in the current survey. It would be much easier for a SIG to skew the results in a survey that was only sent to a select number of anlgers rather than letting the entire public speak to the issue. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

I didn't get a survey The interesting things about surveys is that they can skew the answers by the way they ask the questions and the limited options
that are given for responses. I noticed that there is no option of "better marking of channels/shallows." Most prop scars that I have seen are adjacent to channels/deeper areas where someone misjudged the depth/got out of the channel. This is true along the sides of ICW....where many, if not most of the markers are gone, especially along the western edge. I once saw a barge pushing not one, but two, channel markers along in front of its bow.
I think very few fishermen intentionally tear up sea grass....it can clog the prop, overheat the motor, etc. Maybe TPW should provide free Costas to all boaters so they could better see water depths. |

Looks like this is going to be shoved down our throats. I thought this was put to bed and education was going to be the key? The brown tide is doing more harm to the sea grass and they can't regulate that. Sounds a lot like the Feds and National Parks. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

Excellent point about the way the questions are worded. They will get the answer they want based soley on the way the question was asked. You will either come off as looking like an idiot, with no regard for the resource or an enlightened member of the public who understands the need for regulation.
Also, look at question 6. These are questions with yes or no answers. But those are not your choices.
"seagrass is important to water quality"
I agree b/c I know it to be true, but do I "strongly agree"? That doesn't even make sense.
"seagrass provides a food source to many aquatic organisms" Do you mean the grass itself, or the things that live in the grass? Few things actually eat the seagrass for food (ducks, turtles, manatees) and the last two on that short list are actually trying to get at the epiphytes that grow on the seagrass blades, not the grass itself. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

Aaron, all the creel surveys I encountered were durning the week. You know I do not get involved in weekends.
The problem would be solved if the TP&W would create a border to border no-uprooting seagrass regulation with a fine and restitution penalty and inforce it.
Enforcement could be funded by kayak regestration.

The creel surveys are over before most of us get off work, causing many of us to be excluded from them. I'm not complaining that I don't get surveyed. I'm complaining that they used those surveyed as a group to draw from even though it may not be representative of many users of the resource. I am with you as far as a statewide regulation regarding the destruction of seagrass. TPWD has always taken a statewide approach to managing our fisheries (except the LLM trout regs) so I'm not sure why they are trying to divide up the bay systems to only protect seagrass in certain areas. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

We all know that dividing the bay system is nothing but a "land grab". IMO
the real way to solve the "so called" issues we are having with the seagrass is to go statewide.
Some people haven't see anything yet as far as dead grass in the ULM bay system. Give the brown tide another month, the amount of dead and dying seagrass will be off the charts....no sunlight no seagrass growth.

So now the creel surveyors will get overtime pay. That will be a start in the federal direction.... Which of course means their bosses will have to get overtime also. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |
