Popped my cherry Tuesday night and after fishing all night I managed to pop two bull sharks in a matter of 15 minutes on cut bait about 3 miles north of Surfside Beach. The first one was still thrashing around in the wade gut when I caught the 2nd one otherwise I'd have sworn it was the same one.

Both released successfully with half a hook still in mouth. I was amazed at how vicious these things are. I now see first hand why you have to sling them by the tail because the whole time you have them out of the water they want a piece on you.

nice report and sharks...bullsharks aren't very flexible just saying it may be another species(teeth look funny to me too)

Be careful what you post, minimum size on bulls are 64 inches

Sharks end up dying when strung up like that. Their stomachs aren't held in place so when hung upside down , it forces their internals to move. Hence the fatty look they get on their faces and if not properly helped they will wash ashore very quickly. Fist shark looks like sharpnose, can't see well Enough on second shark but the second looks more like a bull with the long tail fin.

If the consensus is that the first is a Atlantic Sharpnose I'll be kicking myself for not keeping it.

My guess would be Atlantic Sharpnose on the upside down one. Hope that strap didnt break on you. Very Happy

It's not a sharpnose. compare the two photos. My bottom pic is a Sharpenose notice the orientation of the dorsal. Your second shark looks like a Sandbar

Lol the strap is rated for 1,250 lbs, it'll take a lot more shark than that to break it.

I see the difference in the pics. Next time I catch one that may be a keeper I'll have to snap a pic and put it in here in the forum for ya'll to identify and I'll keep him tethered somehow in the wade gut Laughing

That is a lemon shark they are usally in between side the sandbars very nice sharks

Definitely not a lemon shark or a bull. Lemons have two nearly equal-sized dorsal fins.

Also definitely not a keeper because it is not a Blacktip, Sharpnose, or Bonnet.

I am tempted to say juvenile Sandbar but none of the pics are great for IDing.

Interdorsal ridge present, no stripes on the sides, anal fin uniform in color (and the hooked shape is a dead give-away), length of 2nd dorsal fin free rear tip about = to 2nd dorsal height...
