Would anyone be willing to offer advice on the easiest way to get to Redfish bay in a kayak? Where are some easy access launch points? Still trying to learn my way around so I don't get lost next time I'm down.

I'm guessing you can launch on the side of 361 and get yourself out there but would it be shorter to launch from the boat ramp on ransom road?

I never see to many yaks in Redfish bay. Mostly on the other side of 361 or in the lighthouse area. You can start up there and work your back if you want. Lots of good places on the other side of 361 if you know where I'm talking about.

launch off 361 on rt hand side as you are heading to port A just after you cross the intercoastal by conn brown. There is a great flat there behind steadmans reef and fish around that island. I would paddle out to the reef and drift back towards 361 I have always had good luck in there this time of year.

Can be longish paddle but if you put in at the Aransas Pass Water Park you can cross the ICW and get into the flats behind Ransom. Further up hit the spoils between flats. Some people take the old dirt road off Ingleside HW and launch next to ICW....you will see pull offs, old logs blocking off some parts and the road dead ends at a service gate. Someone on here will probably chime in with the actual name of this road but it is not far from the water park as you head towards Ingleside(sp?).

I guess my 1st question should have been whether or not there are a lot of people who kayak to Redfish bay lol. As I've stated before, I'm still trying to learn my way around the water down there and I was curious about getting on the back side of Ransom island and I know that Redfish bay is pretty close so I was just thinking that the back side of ransom island would be considered redfish bay as well. Anyways, if this isn't a good idea then feel free to chime in and let me know haha. But I did notice that I could get to ransom island from 361 or putting in at the boat ramp on Ransom road.

I'd agree with mickeyed!! That is a great place to put in. I'm staying at the campground on Redfish Bay and don't see many yaks, but most put in at the park there.

I'd hire Capt. Dean for a day trip....

http://www.slowrideguide.com/

Learn the in's and out from a pro then go do it on your own...

there were about 15 yackers out in redfish bay yesterday. We ended up catching a bunch of reds (Cool and some solid trout (6 over 20") yesterday.

Anyone know what it costs for a day trip if you already have a kayak? I tried looking on the website but didn't find a price. I think this may be something i really need to look in to...

I think you can put in at Palm Harbor Marina and go straight out to Estes flats.

The boat ramp at the end of Ransom Road (Hamptons Landing)allows easy access to Ransom Island area as well as Steadman flats, or you can launch from Steadmans Island on the R side of the causeway just across the ICW from AP. For Terminal Flats and North Redfish Bay launch on the L side of the causeway near the big Aransas Pass sign or across from the Fin and Feather Marina

If you want to fish the south end of Ransom and the area of Dagger Island then the kayak launch at the Aransas water park, or go down E. Beasley road just south of there. That will put you 1/2-1 mile closer to where you want to be which makes for a shorter paddle in/out and more time and energy to devote to fishing. Ransom is a deeper flat and can get nasty with a strong E/SE wind so plan your trip accordingly.

Definitely touch base with Dean "Slowride" Thomas. Either schedule a day of fishing with him or just stop in the Kayak Shack and ask him or his wife Jennifer some questions (good luck getting out of there without buying a map, lure, t-shirt, etc. I seldom do) They are wonderful people and have been fishing and guiding in that area for a long time.
