i got down to port a around 2 am saturday morning and did some camping with the kids, wife and parents. we took the kiddos to the jetties saturday morning and walked the length of it. the water was terrific. surf couldnt of been but a foot high. we didnt do any fishing there but saw plenty of people catching, including a guy that landed a 40"+ bull red on the channel side.

later that day went down to the port a pier and caught a few whiting and hard heads.. again, nothing too exciting. but the kids really enjoyed it and that's all that really matters

sunday we got a late start going down pins and didnt get to mm 25 until about 11am and the "seaweed: mountains" on the sign at the entrance was no lie Laughing

i only kept one pole out as i had to clear the line every 15-20 mins. being tired of that, i yaked out a ways and saw smacks schooling everywhere. it was pretty crazy. i even had a turtle follow me back.

finally we had a break in the weed and i managed a couple of pomps just over the first bar. i had never caught a pomp, so that was exciting. 1st was smaller at about 14" and the second measured in at 18". 1st was caught on orange crab fishing strips and the second on pink shrimp fishing strips. just use a pomp rig and put one flavor on each hook.

despite the weed, overall great trip. it was the first time for the wife's kids got to go to PINS and they really enjoyed it... especially running over the man-o-wars Laughing

sorry no pix yet

i felt i had to change his luck some how.. after all he was very unlucky with the way i hooked him. Foul hooked him in the belly.. if you notice his cut from the surgery i performed to remove the hook. Laughing

Whoa, not true!

Good Job.

I wish I had some pictures of my first PINS trip. I have no idea what I did that day, but it would be cool to see myself down island for the first time.

well it was by far no where near the first time i had been down pins.. i've been going for 6 years now. but yeah... back in those days it was allllll hard heads Laughing

i am proud to say that for the past 4 or 5 trips, i've caught a new species of fish. this one was pomp, last trip smacks, before blues, a shark etc etc.

the water was great inbetween the half acre mounds of weed floating out there. i'd just have to wait for a break.. but even then i was chasing lines down the beach
