I just learned about this spot as a great place to kayak. Does anyone have any experience with this area they can share with me as I am considering trying out the shoreline of the island directly arcoss from it. I know the water is pretty murky so the next question is, would it be cleared up in this area by Friday after the winds die down, and we get a few spots of rain this week?
I am researching options to take a very dear friend fishing this Friday evening, and I know he would love to fly fish, so if the winds are right I suspect this would be a great place to do so.

| I stay in Palm Harbor, we have a few yakers in the park and they usually do good in the flats here. One also does the fly rod bit and always comes in with fish. Not sure about after the front goes through and no one has gone out in the last few days due to the winds, so can't say what it's like now? |

I know that area well. Great kayaking area. The front will push the fish deeper into California hole on a north wind.
Traylor Island has cuts going through it. Fish those cuts for flounder, slow working a gulp.
Drift estes flats on a normal wind.
Work the outside of traylor island up towards the inlet cut into california hole. sight fish reds there up shallow. Trout between 100 yards further out. _________________ WELCOME TO FLOUR BLUFF...WHAT'S THAT SMELL? |

Down the intracoastal past palm harbor, there is an area of the spoilbanks that is very rocky. This is usually a winter time honeyhole. _________________ WELCOME TO FLOUR BLUFF...WHAT'S THAT SMELL? |

I really appreciate all the advice. I am a little scared to go to Traylor island in the kayak, that's one long supple bum paddle from the boat ramp. I look forward to testing the waters there soon, but I think I will stay around Estes cove and not much furthar than that. Any other markers to look for lmk.
Thanks,

Look for an old dirt track right across the road from the Drifter's Resort. Go in and launch into the ICW there. Some have been using the road into the old Island Moorings development building and have been told by local residents that others use that area. I do not know anyone who has been run out of there lately as it does not seem to be posted. If you see a white truck parked in there, that is my neighbor who launces next to that building all the time.
Good luck! _________________ Mike |

the end of traylor island is right across from the Cove Harbor entrance. You can fish the outside of traylor island by taking a left then a right.
If you go right from the Cove Harbor entrance, you will see a cut (channel) into the back of estes flats through the spoil banks. This channel will take you where you want to go. _________________ WELCOME TO FLOUR BLUFF...WHAT'S THAT SMELL? |

that same channel will take you to a cut that exits out to the backside of traylor.
Fish the gulp slow for flounder along that channel. _________________ WELCOME TO FLOUR BLUFF...WHAT'S THAT SMELL? |

I appreciate all the replies. I think I am going to try to go from Conn Harbor boat ramp to Turtle Bayou, at least that is what the fish map calls it. I don't see a closer spot to put in at, just hope like hell I can get across the channel without geting run over, big boats make really nervous. Anyone have any input as to how the fishing looks in that area or markers, lmk. I thank everyone for all the ideas. I like trying new spots, but it's even more helpful if a local gives you pointers.

The most easiest is what a lot of them do is launch there yaks at Palm Harbor RV, it is $5.00 per yak, but you can cover all the honey holes the others do.. On a busy week end I can see 10 plus yaks going in, and there are others in the park that go out regularly. They always are cleaning there catch at the fish station??
A short 50 yard run and your across the channel. |

Yes, a good spot. It is a short run unless you have a severe thunderstorm headed your way and you are in a kayak fishing tournament David Sikes and I know for some reason _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

looks like Palm Harbor is the spot I am going to try out. If anyone in a yak wants to join me, maybe even show me around, I would love to meet up with you. I plan on hitting the water around 8:00 or 8:30 since the fog will be thick first thing. I have a small entourage, my gal and my best friend from Austin, so look for three of us, and make it a few more if you want to join us.
