had a chance to spend some good time on the water..
so i got the yak together and was on the water by 9:00am
paddled off into the fog, went and fished flats and really covered some water fishing gulp shrimp(new penny, natural) and a red/white Norton sand eel jr.
first fish i hooked stayed down i thought i had a flattie, ended up being a huge hard head on gulp lol
i found undersized trout all over, probably landed some where around 50 only two were keepers....
so i paddled off to the channel by this time the fog had lifted
i tried the gulp and sand eel jr. in the channel the gulp caught nothing, while the little sand eel hooked trout every few casts
changed the rod i was using for gulp out, for fish bites, casts it in the channel and kept throwing the red/white sand eel jr.
I caught one of the biggest whiting i have seen on fish bites, hooked something strange on the sand eel it found hard then would stop i got it next to the yak and could see it was a massive ribbon fish(my guess is it was almost 5 foot) the sand eel came unhooked cant say i was upset about that one...
got this 13inch sand trout on fish bites put it on the stringer, just after that i hooked and brought in a crab trap on fish bites lol
had about six boats go by in the four hours i was fishing the channel i moved further north twice ended up directly in line with the little bird island you are not supposed to walk on
i was dragging the sand eel along bottom really slow when i got bit big time... i missed it, i reeled in and my red/white sand eel jr. was hanging in two pieces just behind the jig....it landed around 40 fish before that
Norton sand eel jr.=effective cheap tough bait
i look over at my fish bites rod and its bent double. i get it out of the rod holder and i feel weight wasn't sure if i had fish yet.i thought it was another crab trap or plastic bag(had that happen before)
it gives me a hard 15 yard run then digs in.... i pull my quick release knot and pull myself on top of it.. though i had a big stingray at this point since it was really sticking to bottom
http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=323959744328746
i finally see it and it looked like a huge flounder, thought i had the new record for a second lol
http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=323963960994991
i fought it just feet from the yak the whole time finally got in shallow enough water to get out of the yak and land him(yes on the island you are not supposed to walk on) don't think i could have done it in the yak
fish was out of the water less than two minutes
measured somewhere near 36inches (ran around like crazy once he was out of the water so i didn't get that accurate of a measurement)
caught on a Curado 50e with 15lb braid, my terminal gear was just a 4/0 eagle claw lazer sharp circle hook snelled to about 18inches of 30lb MONO, a spro swivel and a 1once egg sinker on top of the swivel....
my little Curado handled that drum in about 30minutes and was begging for more...
thanks AcousTennis pretty much your rig that caught this fish

beautiful release i will remember it forever
paddled home after the big ugly was released, the wind had picked up and i was bleeding pretty good..this happened when i tripped over the fish while releasing on vid.
i gave my sand trout to another boater on the way home
this was one of the most rewarding trips in the bay i have ever had i am happy to share it with yall _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/Shark456Bait/featured

i always like your reports.. very descriptive with the bait and hardware you're using.
a few weeks ago i got the biggest whiting i've ever seen.. not huge but big. 14" whiting on fishbites off of bob hall. he was a couple inches longer than my shoe |

Great Report and great catch!! I was out there yesterday caught about 10 undersize and one 20" keeper trout. All on a DOA Pearl/Chart shad. I must have missed another 30 though. Will be off the rest of the week and want to go out there again, however dead wrong dale is calling for a windy week. _________________ I like fishies |

| Good job SB. We got in the backyard today at the crack of noon. Pulling drifts within sight of the two posts we caught a lot of trout on a variety of plastics but only three that kept. They were all on deeper sand, nothing in shallower grass. |

Be careful what you wish for
They are fun to catch. I have medium weight gear Abu garcia 6600 on a tiger ugly stick and its perfect for me. Catching them on your gear was I'm sure a blast and like you said you will remember for a long time.
I released a 30" drum last night that stuck me on my hand. It's a small price to pay for the excellent memories bro _________________ "Do not call my Jeep a Car ever again " |
