This may go without saying, but maybe not: Just remember that there's no free lunch on conventional casting gear. You can set things so that not even Forest, Forest Gump could get a backlash and have no distance or go the other way and be casting "a mile" but take a chance on the occasional snake pit!!!!
Personally, I set my conventional reels up closer to the latter. To my way of thinking, the distance is worth the risk, and the risk is easily managed with practice and learning. _________________ Dave

SFCCI has a distance casting tournament coming up. If you would like to learn how to cast far just show up. Distance is a lot farther on the internet than measured by a licensed surveyor with GPS. |

That's what I figured. I measured my stride off and walked mine, so I know approximately, and the casting distance has improved.
Where is this tournament?
Thanks!!

| 90 feet? I would not cast or practice in that space at all because that is not enough room even for a 3 ounce sinker. I am pretty sure you can cast more than 30 yards with that set up. |

Ninety-feet is how far I was casting; I'm now casting close to 150 feet, measured by stepping it off relating to the length of my stride, and I am casting on a loooong, rectangular 3 and a half acre lot across the street from my business, so I have lots of space to cast on.
I'm doing better, and that has made me feel pretty good.
