So my wife and 6 month old took off to San Antonio for the weekend around 3pm and I was wondering what I should do with the rest of my day off. Hhhmmm.......what to do? What to do? Oh I know....I'll got into work. Wait! What?! Well I had to go and take care of some things at work so I figured why not. Took every bit of about 15 min to finish up there and decided to do what I REALLY wanted to do. It was about 3:45 when I said to myself, "self...you should go wet a line". So I decided to go get my gear and went off to the packery channel. Current was strong and there was grass all over everyone's lines there. I tossed a DOA twice and said "Pass". Decided to see what the jetties looked like and it looked promising. It was myself, a buddy of mine, and only one other fisherman there. The stranger was the first to throw a line out. He was fishing with live shrimp under a cork. I was getting my things set up and saw his rod doubled over. NICE!!! I had to stop to see what he was dealing with and low and behold... a nice Pomp at the end of his leader. Once I saw that, what normally takes me 5 minutes to set up was done in 5 seconds. Only had dead shrimp with me so I decided to rig up on bottom. Threw out the first cast and sure enough, a Pomp. I look over after landing the first to the other guy and I see him, gripping the Pomp with both hands as he gently tosses it back to the water Shocked !! I throw another shrimp out and BAM!! fish on again. Another one. I look back over and he's hooked up again too. As I proceed to put my second in the ice chest, he throws the second back in the water. UUhhh....ok. This continues back and forth for about 10 minutes before he walks over and says..."I noticed your catching the same thing I am and keeping them. What are they?" Shocked
Shocked I told him they were Pompano and that they were great (understatement) eating. He told me he thought they were Jack Crevalles. So he runs back over to his gear and starts catching more and now keeping them. So I go back to fishing now not so much worried about what the other guys doing and more on catching these suckers. It was about 4:45 when I started and at about 5:30 when the light was starting to dim....it was as if someone decided to turn the feeding switch off for these guys. Caught 2 whiting in a row and then it just flat lined. Stuck around for a few more minutes with a chunk of whiting to see if there were any reds out there but nothing even touched it. It is amazes me every time to feel how much of a fight these guys put on for the size. Anyway...ended up with 17 Pomps with the biggest pushing around 17 inches.

The end result for a few of the fishies.

Nice catch. I was going to go out there today after getting a clean bill of health from my doc for my yearly exam, but went in the boat instead. Heard the pomps were thick at fish pass jetty as well.

Was checking out the repair on my fuel pump. Still some probs. Only caught 4 keeper trout in about 2 hrs.
