Thanks David. "Cuisinarts in the Gulf" is right.

Just curious - is there any data to support all the "cuisinart" rhetoric? I will be the first to admit that I don't have any data either way, but the so-called "blades" that I see traveling down the highway on the back of 18 wheelers don't seem all that sharp; nor do they appear to me to be moving all that quickly once they are installed. Like I said, I don't know either way. Just curious about what the reality of the situation is.

I am no expert on this, but the blades dont have to be sharp. As far as speed, those blades are huge. I would imagine that out at the end of the blade it would be moving pretty fast.

I just got back from a trip in the baltic. These offshore windturbines are all over the place over there in spots. In places they went on for miles.

They are deceivingly fast for the area that they cover... the turbines used at the San Patricio farm (Papalote Creek) sweep an area from 1.3 to 1.7 acres in size. Maximum blade tip speeds are up to 170 miles per hour depending upon the model (other models exceed 200mph).

Yeah, I guess it makes sense that they are moving along pretty good out there at the end. Not sure that alone justifies the rhetoric, though. Also not sure how much it matters how fast they are now that I think about it - my sliding glass door is pretty slow, but still manages to take its toll every once in a while. Laughing

Indeed. I would rather pay more for energy, or other utilities, then to take any chance of negatively destroying the eco systems on the Texas coast, or any thriving ecosphere. Seems to always be a negative domino effect. Once gone it might be a long time before it comes back, if ever.

Here in Bastrop the fire was started by downed power lines caused by falling old timber in the Bastrop State Park. There really should have been more oversight by both Bluebonnet Electric and TSPW since this happen once already but on a smaller scale 2 years ago. Now 30,000 acres, 16,000 acres of dead or dying trees and 99% of a 2900 acre state park is charcoal. The cost of modernization? You tell me.

I hate the damn things. There are thousands out here where I'm at. To re-iterate, I hate the damn things.

Thank you Capt. Billy for speaking out on this issue. I only visit PINS, and not very frequently, and I would not want to spend my time in a wonderful remote area looking at the same thing on the horizon that I see here every day.

It is very appealing financially to the landowner to allow these monstrosities on their property. A very lucrative proposition. I can't say that if they wanted to put some on my 50 acres that I wouldn't be tempted. It's embarrassing to admit that.

I hope that those of you in the coastal bend area are able to prevail against this "wind" storm. We have already lost in my part of the world. I wish ya'll better.

The wildlife destroying aspect to me is minor as compared to the massive waste of taxpayer dollars (make no mistake - they are heavily subsidized or they would not be going up). The waste concept comes with the longevity of the darn things. Face it - the ones the City of Corpus Christi put in at the park lasted less than a year before the salt and humidity took their toll. How long do you really think they will operate "problem free" out on the open water?

The nerve of some idiot, accusing Billy of being paid by an NGO for his forum piece. Evil or Very Mad Billy's word is gospel, and can't be bought. Go to the C-T link and rip CCGRUNT0331 a new one in your comments. Twisted Evil

I think all the structure they would create would be awesome for the fishing. Not sure on bird kills, Any proof to it? No dead birds around the farms in Taft yet.

How far offshore would they be placed? Federal or state.? Should be out of view from shore, they are ugly but functional.
