Where can I find a place near Portland where I can get my homemade trailer galvanized? I use to hear about a place in Robstown on the radio called TWI but I think they are no longer in business.

either just use the spray cans of cold galvanized sold everywhere, or bump it up and get the thing powder-coated, CC Powder Coating on Leopard.....

Hate to say this but I had a powder coat, biggest piece of junk ever. Rusted out in a year. Had to have it totaly rebuilt on the company's dime. Sold it as soon as I got it back from the rebuild. If you want something that will last get it hot dipped. Drill some holes and it coat the inside and out.

Talk to them over at Texas Steel, the routinely send stuff to the galvanizing place in Houston. It has to be stripped down before sending. A frined of mine did this a few years back.

yes texas steel was doing it.i built my trailer 9 years ago uesd a twopart epoxy paint on it every two years i do a repaint on it, looks just like the day i built it.another option is to have it (da-met coated) most places that do sandblasting also do the spraying im sure i mis spelled it. its a good coating.i have been welding 30 years even a galvanized trailer requires maintenance after awhile. plastic will rust here if you leave it out long enough Laughing

$ wise looks like I'll be doing my own painting. Galvanize would have been nice but sending it out of town, too costly. I need to see whats best for coating expanded metal. Which seems to be my weakest metal for rusting out.

man dude expanded is the worst for rusting it has to much flex especially its the bbq grill type which is called #9 flat out or the same size thats not flat.it can be replaced with galvanized expanded which will hold up longer.most paints will eventually crack letting in moisture which around here contains salt. remember the only elements you need for corrosion are heat salt and humidity you dont even have to be in the water.and it really attacks dissimilar metals such as aluminum trailers with galvanized or stainless bolts.got any metal questions about metals feel free to ask.paint is only as good as the surface underneath.two part epoxies,or polyurethanes will hold up better than any 1 part paint.

I am very fond of a paint called Hamerite. It comes in many colors and is really tough stuff. Ace hardware (Padre Island Supply on the bluff) carries it in their boating supplies area. About $15 a quart...but well worth it.
