Keep an eye on the weather.....this weather statement was issued this morning. I'm not trying to scare anyone off but we sure need the rain.
Statement as of 5:42 AM CDT on October 07, 2011

... Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms expected this
Columbus day weekend...

A potent upper level trough and associated jet streak will move
toward Texas this weekend... and impact the area starting on
Saturday. Plentiful atmospheric moisture will be available at this
time... and energy from this system will combine with this moisture
to produce scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms from
Saturday through Monday.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop Saturday morning
near the coastal areas and in the Gulf waters as surface winds
near and along the coast provide lift to generate showers and
thunderstorms. Rainfall will then spread westward during the day
on Saturday as the upper level system approaches from the west.
Some of the showers and thunderstorms which form over western
Mexico and Rio Grande region may move slowly east during the
overnight hours. Shower and thunderstorm activity will continue
Sunday and Sunday night... before the impacts from the upper level
storm system move north and east away from south Texas on Monday.
However... plentiful moisture will remain on Monday to keep rain
chances in the forecast before slightly drier air begins to move
slowly into the region on Tuesday.

Rainfall amounts during the weekend are expected to average
between 1/2 to nearly 1 1/2 inches... with the higher amounts more
likely over the Rio Grande plains and western brush country.
Isolated rainfall amounts totaling 4 or more inches are also
possible. With areas being so dry for so long of a time... the
concern for flash flooding is not high although a slow-moving strong
storm producing heavy rainfall over an urban area or remaining
nearly stationary over an area for some time could produce
localized flooding.

A few strong storms are also possible... mainly Saturday night and
Sunday... with wind gusts to 50 mph and small hail possible. At
this time it appears that the concern for severe thunderstorms...
producing winds near 60 mph or more and large hail will be
limited... as atmospheric winds and instability are not sufficient
for a widespread severe weather event. Still... one or two storms
could approach these levels.

Residents should continue to monitor the weather this
weekend... and be prepared to take action to remain safe if any
warnings are issued

Latest word from Ranger Buzz
"I spoke to Wade Stablein this morning regarding what they encountered in the way of red tide effects on the trip down and back from Mansfield Channel yesterday. He reported encountering moderate levels of aerosols from the 30 south with a strengthening as you approached the channel (especially the last half mile). His estimate on the fish kill at the channel was one fish approximately every twenty feet, so not too bad - yet.
Wade also said that you can detect the aerosol all the way up to the twenty as well but so far it's still relatively light.

They were able to collect water samples and those have been sent to TPWD.
Wade said he's uncertain when they will get the results of the analysis back and that it's dependent on how many samples need analyzing. Once we get the latest algae per ML readings back I'll forward it to you."
