I waded the King Ranch shoreline yesterday morning with a couple of my buddies. I managed to catch a bunch of skippies, a few trout and my first red on the fly. All of my fish were caught on a little red and white popper. I put the fish on the stringer and took him back to the boat for a pic. He was right at 30". He was released in great condition along with all of the other fish. While fighting him I looked over at my buddies who were giving me a hard time for fly-fishing just to make sure they see me hooked up. As I am looking over my buddies spook jr. gets hammered by a 4' tarpon. It came back on it three times and it was half way out of the water twice. It was definitely one of the coolest thing I have seen. For a second I wished I hadn't been hooked up on the red just so I could take a shot at the tarpon but I'm not complaining. My first red on the fly and it was oversized.
