If you knew you were going to be stranded on an island for a week and you have to catch Reds for your food and you could only take one soft bait with only one color what would be your choice as the most dependable year around soft plastic lure. Example would be like a 5 inch Bass Assassin Lure Texas Shad Pumpkin Seed with a Chartreuse Tail on a 1/16 ounce jig, or a 7 inch Tequila Sunrise Berkley Power Worm Texas Rigged on a worm hook? _________________ "OVER A MILLION SPECIES ON THIS PLANET AND HUMANS ARE THE ONLY ONE THAT CREATES GARBAGE" |

| My go too plastic is BA's Red Shad 5" on a 1/8 jighead. But I don't leave home w/o spoons. I also use DOA's in different colors. |

| For years it was a Norton Sand Eel Jr. in Cajun Pepper with a 1/16th ounce weedless jighead but the last few months it has been Brown Lures Flappin Devil - Plumtreuse with either a 1/16 or 1/8 oz. jighead. |

Topdog I thought you were pulling my leg again, but I did go to Academy sports website and there really is a bull minnow.
But what color if you could only take one color.
The reason I posted this is when I was Bass Fishing and hiking into some Lakes on the Wichita Wildlife that were well over a mile I would only take Berkly Power Worms in the motor oil color or the tequila sunrise.
Over a period of years I had it zeroed down to the fact if they were not hitting on motor oil or tequila sunrise, then most of the time they were not hitting only anything else.
Just trying to figure out the what is the most dependable for salt water fish.
Thanks to those who shared their favorites. Just trying to fish smarter. _________________ "OVER A MILLION SPECIES ON THIS PLANET AND HUMANS ARE THE ONLY ONE THAT CREATES GARBAGE" |

IMO a 3" new penny gulp is hard to beat but unfortunately the perch think so too so that can make it tough this time of year.
TTKII in morning glory is tough to beat especially in lesser clarity. |

Norton bull minnow in pumpkinseed chartruse. As far as being stranded on an Island, I hope it's the one with half naked amazon beauties. Someone has to help me catch fish. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED.

I prefer the Holo Pink 4.5" Diet Jerk. This has been my go-to lure for a couple of years now, and has worked wonders for me everywhere I've fished. The lure is versatile and has caught me a number of different species (including a LOT of reds!). I also fish the pearl/chartreuse RS Jerk regularly, and the glow/chartreuse mullet.
I have really come to love the Reaction Strike lures because they're cheap (3.99 for a 10 pack!!!) and tough. They don't get their tails bitten off like other lures do and they offer a lot of colors! Roy's has an awesome selection by the way.
Here's the lure in action a few weeks ago:
