Buddies were hitting the jetty, but I saw that the winds were going to lay down a bit so I skipped and jumped in the yak. Launched at around 4, drifted over the flats with some live shrimp (tiny ones) and kept getting destroyed by skippies and pinfish.

I decided to upsize the bait to a red/white kelly wiggler and go for deeper water. The trout bite was on till about 6 - keepers and shorts, one after another for a few hours.
Then I had a huge hit and line was peeling off, head shaking...I got excited thinking big trout. Went for a sleigh ride, not a trout but a 30+ inch red. Back in the soup she went. When it slowed a bit I moved back to the flats and started catch tons of small reds, more trout and a few more skips. By this point the water was glass, and you could see mullet and small reds running around in the shallows, and the sun was setting. And what a beautiful sunset it was.

Had well over 10 keeper sized trout, kept my 5 fish, biggest 19in, released one that was close to 22-23. On the way in, the lights were real active with perch, small trout and rat reds.

At one point in the evening Chuck texted me to see how the water level and tides were in the area I was fishing because he was thinking about hitting it up in the morning. They were low, but I tried to convince him to still fish it. I hope he did, and that he did well.

active flats

enjoyable evening

Nice job Luke.
I took my wife on the boat from 5pm to 8pm to Oso Bay and got skunked.
Nevertheless, we enjoyed ourselves brinking beer, talking, and watching the sunset Razz

Luke, nicely done and reported. Much appreciated.
To make a Cool Hand Luke reference would be off topic.
Luke, keep your cool hand strong.
Such a great report.

Very nice report right there Luke. Great sunset. Even greater picture of the stringer of fish in the sink. If I did that at my house I would be in a bunch of trouble.
