Howdy!
I'm a new member and this is my first post so here goes...
I am going to be buying a set of tires for my "new" '99 Blazer, size 255/70R15 which has limited what's available to me. The three I like best are:
1) General Tire-Grabber AT2's,
2) Kumho-Road Venture APT KL51, and
3) Firestone-Firehawk Indy 500
I live in San Antonio and don't do any off-roading so mostly highway miles will be put on them. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
I am in the process of getting the Blazer up-to-date on maintenance as well as repairing my kayak so that I can make a few trips to Corpus throughout the summer and fall.
I'm especially interested in going offshore to some of the rigs/platforms.
Thanks and I look forward to hearing your replies. |

I had these on my last truck and they were still on it with plenty of tread left miles when it was totaled 40,000miles later. When the tires need replaced on my new Tacoma, I'll be going back with them. Excellent all around; road, off road, rain, snow, mud, sand, and great life for such a beast.

Thanks Huffster and BeachBum but I am limited to size 255/70R15 tires and it does'nt seem to be a very common tire/size.
I am trying to maximize the section width while keeping the diameter the same. That's why I'm limiting myself to the 255/70R15 size.
Right now I have 235/75R15s so by switching I am able to add almost an inch in width and less than 1/10th an inch in diameter.
If anyone has opinions/advice on the General Grabber AT2, Kumho Road Venture APT KL51, or Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks for the replies. |

imo, the beach is not particularly picky when it comes to tires of equal size. i would just stay away from the real knobby stuff, which tends to dig, and base my selection on other non-beach-related criteria.
i dont have any personal experience with any of the tires that you mentioned, but i came very close to buying a set of the at2s a while back. in the end, as this was for my daily driver, not the fishing/hunting rig, i just got a set of highway tires. but i will probably try the at2s at some point. I am curious as to how they hold up compared to the old faithful BFG ATs. _________________

I think I would focus in on the tire for highway use like mentioned above. You may be able to get that BFgoodrich (which I have been using for last 13 years) at a cheaper price since it is an odd size. Discount was not able to do a search? just asking and good luck.
and stay away from nobby tires. too loud inside the cab. _________________ Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. |

If your asking about Discount Tire, they had a few in the size I'm looking for but not the brand/style.
I'm definitely staying away from knobby tires though.
Thanks for the input guys. |
