or should I call it "favorite lures"
We are starting to focus on artificials, getting away from live bait. What are some good artificial lures to use now its getting close to summer (no more corkys?)
I read a post on reaction strike, but after looking there are 20 types of reaction strikes..
What do yall like to use, paddle tails, split tails, which lengths etc. _________________ SHOALWATER EXPRESS |

| I like to start out before day break with a black topwater, then at daylight go the bone colored topwater, when the bite stop's, then I throw mirrors lures, spoons, and then jerk baits. If the water is off color I throw dark colored and if the water is clear go light colors. The BA's Red Shad 5" is my go to bait, and I catch most of my trout on them. |

I believe I was probably the one who made the original report about the Reaction Strikes.... The color that I prefer is the Holo Pink 4.5" Diet Jerk. This has been my go-to lure for a couple of years now, and has worked wonders for me everywhere I've fished. The lure is versatile and has caught me a number of different species. I also fish the pearl/chartreuse RS Jerk regularly, and the glow/chartreuse mullet.
I have really come to love the Reaction Strike lures because they're cheap (3.99 for a 10 pack!!!) and tough. They don't get their tails bitten off like other lures do, and like you said, they offer a lot of colors!
I've posted some close-ups of the colors below from two trips I took last week:
P.S. if you want one color, get the holo pink. 9 out of 10 trips, it's the only lure I'll fish, and it always produces

I use a bone spook jr for topwater and what ever color plastic i happen to have with me. My favorite is a 1/8 or 1/4 Johnson Sprite gold spoon. _________________ Fishing and Kayaking its a rough life but somebody has to do it. |

The 3 inch white gulp is my go to lure. Here is a list that my fishing partner have caught throwing white gulps in the last 2 years. Red Drum, Black Drum, Speckled Trout, Pin Perch, Snook, Mangrove Snapper, Red Snapper, Grouper, Spanish Mackrel, King Mackrel, and Gafftop. Some how the flounder have eluded us, but maybe we can add them to our list this year. _________________ Off Shore Port Mansfield |

I won't claim to be any sort of expert, and the ones that DO claim to be the "experts" probably won't comment here.
But as far as the categories of lures i regularly use:
x2 what chuck said.
Any gulp for that matter, shrimp, jerkshad, swimming mullet, any color.
and x2 on the reaction strikes, pink and white/chart, straight tail
Add to that any color Storm Wild-Eye Swim Shad if I am fishing deep water, and also a dark colored assasin like morning glory or black for murky water and cloudy days.
If I'm fishing and not catching fish on a topwater, gulp, spoon or my go-to soft plastics, its not not the lure, its either the location or I am doing something REALLY wrong with the action.
There is a whole thread on throwing arties that is a sticky up at the top.
You wil get all kinds of folks out there, from the IMS type that throw mainly just 2 colors (pumpkin/chart and plum/chart if I remember correctly?) to the guys that ONLY throw spoons, to the guys that praise the DOA shrimp/cork combo, to the guys like zia who like to mix it up and catch on sveral lures throughout the day. _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |

early in the morning (sometimes all day long if the bite lasts...), i'll be throwing a topwater. choose your topwater wisely though. if it's flat calm, i throw a corky fatboy floater or a super spook jr. if it's moderately windy, say 10-20, i'll throw a skitterwalk or he dog. anything over 20, when most people would rather just stay at home, throw a she dog or some other really loud topwater. choose colors according to water clarity.
plastics are a different story for most (me included). i like to use only one brand and only about three different colors. i use saltwater assassins, colors: chicken on a chain (or hot chicken), chandleur isle and bone diamond. if i can't catch fish on any of these lures, i shouldn't be fishing... _________________ 'one does not know what is beneath the surface...' Thanks fellas, that will be a great start!! hopefully we can start catching fish on lures and bypass the shrimp and croaker...
Im heading down this weekend for an extended fishing trip (hopefully last until monday or tuesday thanks to a couple days off before final exams start) This really helps alot, now I just need to get confident on lures and not give up.

Lately Ive had best luck with DOA gold/glitter shrimp lure under a cajun thunder float. (3ft leader, pop n let it fall.)
Also helps to super glue the shrimp head to the hook eye. Otherwize when popping the float all the time will pull the shrimp off the hook some. _________________ -STAY THIRSTY MY FRIENDS!- |
