a friend of mine who fishes at the oso bridge on ocean drive.tells me they have been slaying the fish.hes been doing great on berkly gulps.but says people are doing good on live shrimp also.with catches of trout drum and sheephead. the only problem is a lot of people are leaving with over size drum and over the limits on trout. kinda like a mad house. ANYWAY just a local report .have a great day.

Whoa....I've fished the Oso Bridge for the ten years I've been in CC. Never had Navy Personnel question me or anyone else that's been fishing when I have. The Navy has jurisdiction only on the grounds and waters encompassing the base.

Would suggest you get it right or leave it alone.

I fished osobridge last wednesday morning before the winds started. I was the only fool on the water that morning but landed eight 17-24 in. trout with only using 10 of my 40 live shrimp. Laughing I was praying for two more to make my limit but the bite stopped. I haven't caught a limit in years and it would have topped off my year since it was the first time out with my new rod from christmas. Anyways, I have seen the MP's there and spoke with them. They stated as long as I have a fishing license and ain't doing anything illegal, it was fine to fish. He also did say the gate was going to be moved just passed the church but could not give me any time frame. That was around october if i recall correctly. I tried to post pics, sorry if there are small but i took them from the camera phone.

Then suggest you leave it alone. The navy owns from the college to the current north gate. Its my understanding the the new gate will be where they put the new bullards, just past the church. Once the gate is inplace you will not be able to drive around it, but you will be able to park and walk in to fish.

That gate sounds good to me as I have a Mil ID card. That should cut down some of the non-military fisherman as it is almost impossible to wade near the bridge on the college side for the last few yrs due to all the bank fisherman and kayakers near the bridge. Sorry if I sound selfish, but that used to be one of my favorite and easy places to fish for an old bum-knee fisherman. Just some advice about that area-NEVER try to drive by the bridge when it is the least bit wet or you WILL get stuck, even 4X4s.

That wont stop the kayakers. But it might stop some of those bank fisherman that leave their trash there. Team Oso wont be able to do their quarterly trash pick up there anymore so I will expect to see a lot of Navy A-holes and elbows out there Laughing Laughing

I almost got stuck and almost slid off the dirt road yesterday while it was raining. Shocked I had planned to paddle under the bridge and fish. Within 4 seconds of being in the water I almost dumped my yak. Winds had me unstable and I forgot how to use a paddle. Laughing Laughing Laughing Today looks like a better day Cool

I have not only been personally questioned by naval authorities while fishing that area, I have seen it on numerous other occassions. The game wardens ought to make a point to stop by there in the mornings and do some serious ticket writing.

You used to see game wardens out there more often when the north gate at the base was open 24 hrs a day. They would sit in their truck and watch the wade fishermen with binnoculars then go down and check them when they came in. Also, during the winter when there would be some extremely cold weather about 2 days later on sunny days(for about 2 days)the reds and an occasional flounder would be stacked in the channel out by the white post. Most of them would be the 17-19 1/2"ers, but every 6-10 fish would be a slot or bigger red just rolling a heavy jighead on the bottom with red, rootbeer, or chartr. plastic. The tide would usually be real low so the folks with no waders would even venture out to that island and throw dead bait out there in the chnl. They would keep everything and here would come about 2=3 wardens in waders and these 20 guys would take off running some dragging their stringers of illegal fish and some just dropping them. The wardens could only catch a few of them and the rest just jumped in their trucks and took off. That road is really slippery when wet and have seen more than one truck or jeep slide sideways right off the embankment. Glad you made it out OK.
