Guys,
I am taking my 6 year old down this weekend, Leaving around 5:30 p.m. from S.A.. I have not fished winter time on Pins before. Just want to know what fish to go after and what to use for them. Also I want to try around the high 40's. Is that too far down,if so what mm should we post up at? Thanks for the tips! _________________ Fish till I die |

What day are you planning your trip?
PINS is not going to be the most inviting girl this weekend... Winds today are 30+mph from the SSE. Tomorrow is suppose to be the same. Right now the surf is chocolate... Have a look at the cam on Bob Hall Pier http://coastalsurfing.com/bobhallpier_30sec.swf The SSE wind is going to push the high tide up HIGH, so driving may not be good til we see a switch in wind.
Friday night is when the next Norther is expected. Winds will shift NE 15mph. This will make it cold but also flatten the surf some. Mostlikely though, not enough for a good experience on PINS. Monday is the day I would target to hit PINS, give that front time to pass and the sun to warm things up.
If you still want to fish this weekend, I'm sure someone else on this board can give you some help on target another fishing spot.
Good luck and tight lines! |

From what I understand close to Port Mansfield will be sunny with a high around 70 or so and winds around 10 mph. That should make for a decent fishing trip right??? _________________ Fish till I die |

Where are you getting your weather report? Even if it does warm up, the surf will still be real sloppy, cold, and off color. Sunday & Monday will be better. What are you planning on fishing for? Reds? Pompano?
Good Luck! |

"Went out today and it was NASTY. If it is possible to have 20 rows at 4 feet, that's what there was..."

I go to weather channel .com to get my weather info. As of yesterday at around 5:00 p.m. it said at Port Mansfield it would be 50's in the morning warming up to around 70 and sunny (for sat. and sun.)?? Oh well I will set the trip back until next week. We were going to try for some Reds, Drum, and put some shark lines out. D*m*, I really wanted a 3 day weekend on the beach. Thanks for the input. You guys are the best! _________________ Fish till I die |

Best of luck to you andyour son! I'm as heartbroke as you about not going fishing this weekend. Luckily, I'm off until next Thursday, so I'm going to try and get some fishing in during a calm period.
Have a look at the Bob Hall Pier Cam. Incredible swells!
Here's what's going on today weather...
CORPUS CHRISTI...KINGSVILLE...
PORT ARANSAS...PORTLAND...INGLESIDE...ARANSAS PASS... SINTON...MATHIS
557 AM CST FRI DEC 29 2006 ...WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM THIS MORNING TO 6 PM CST THIS AFTERNOON...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CORPUS CHRISTI HAS ISSUED A WIND ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM THIS MORNING TO 6 PM CST THIS AFTERNOON.
A STRONG UPPER LEVEL LOW APPROACHING FROM THE SOUTHWESTERN UNITED STATES WILL CAUSE LOW PRESSURE TO DEEPEN OVER WEST TEXAS TODAY. THIS WILL RESULT IN SOUTHEAST WINDS SUSTAINING BETWEEN 25 AND 35 MPH WITH GUSTS TO AROUND 40 MPH.
THE WINDS MAY POSE PROBLEMS FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES...SUCH AS VANS AND TRUCKS AND UNSUPPORTED WALLS AT CONSTRUCTION SITES.
SECURE OUTDOOR LAWN FURNITURE SUCH AS GARBAGE CANS..OR OTHER OBJECTS THAT COULD BE BLOWN ABOUT BY THE WIND.
A WIND ADVISORY MEANS THAT SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS ARE EXPECTED TO BE 25 TO 39 MPH.
Ouch! |

| From what I deciphor from the "weather forecast", it appears that the North wind is going to stick around for most of the week. This will help flatten the surf, but only time clears that dirty water... Dirty water is not as much an issue for Reds, Drums, or Shark, but can make it hard to find bait in the surf (i.e. whiting, pompano). Let's also hope that the dead grass leaves the beach too. It seems we will be getting a change in the wind direction on Friday, but it's not going to last long. Could be sprinkles, but who cares about that. I plan on fishing a Hangover-Monday. I'm hopeful, but could be skunked. Such is the allure of fishing PINS. I'll be sure to report how I do. Tight lines! |

| I'm in Port A now but tried PINS this AM. Surf was to the dunes and water chocolate brown. Yes, 20 rows at least 4 and maybe 6 feet. Couldn't even get on the beach. We're having to drive to either corpus or copano to find fishable water in the bays. |
