That's what I was thinking. PINS doesn't border Mexico.[/quote]

Last time I camped at Mansfield pass, there was a strange large group of people just across the pass. I have seen people walking down the island many times with their gallon jugs of water. L

What they need to do see set up those blimps with camera's that can watch about twenty five miles area 24hrs a day. Then send me the Marines from the Navy Base in and slove the problems, and give them some combat pay. Twisted Evil

Anyone ever hear more on the FOIA request made by the caller times to obtain the park's numbers involving smuggling?

According to a friend of mine who works for the local US Customs, there is a large amount of drug smuggling and illegal trafficking that goes thru the park.

Seen any turtles w/ backpacks?

I doubt that the FOIA request regarding smuggling and accidents will be released until after the appropriation has been made to increase the size of the ranger staff and build the new ranger building. At some point, entry and exit at PINS will be just like a border patrol checkpoint.

I know of numerous bails of contraband that has been found in daylight on PINS...That just means more is being found overnight. The Latino gangs don't care, if you are in the way, you might as well be dead to them.

dumb questions but what are the cameras for? for drug smugglers? Seems like a pretty big expense when probably 95% of the people are going onto the park to fish or camp

They want to make sure the Tent Cot Bandit does not get out. Endangered species, only one of its kind.

I don't care if they take a picture because I obey the laws. If they are worried about drugs or illeagle people they should run the beach more. Most of the action would be at night. I have never seen a ranger or boder patrol down the beach. I usully fish from the 20 to 30 miles down the beach and I'm down there just about every weekend. We can't even get the park rangers to make people move there campers off the main road. I just wonder if they know the rules. I use to see alot of aliens come up the beach. Maybe they travel in the dunes now. There were bicycles all up and down the beach that they left there. Maybe they got a ride or picked up by the boder patrol. I'v had them stop by my camp and all they wanted was water. Maybe I'v been lucky. But I have dogs and they let me know when someone is around and I'm ready for them real quick. When they see mister pistol they are real nice.

Yep, the border patrol is very active right now in southwest TX. I had a border patrol boat run us down as my cousin and I were heading to a near shore rig out of Port A in my zodiac inflatable. Asked a bunch of questions that my cousin answered, then told me to speak English to them, lol. I am from TX and only speak English.

Then they said it was outrageous that we were in a 12.5 foot boot offshore and let us go. As we were motoring away, they started to take pictures of us. Man, what a boring job. Having to chase down and question fishermen.

Also, coming into TX from New Mexico on I 10, they are searching people left and right at the border patrol stop east of El Paso. I have driven 400,000 miles in the last 10 years throughout the US and have never been searched till the last year when I have been given the dog treatment about 5 times.

Of course the dogs are a lot better than actually having them go through all your stuff.
