My friends, Richard and Peggy, had their kayaks stolen yesterday. We had just returned from a paddle on Lake Corpus Christi and they had left their yaks on top of their truck. They live out on Padre Island. Anyways, please keep your eyes open for these kayaks.

Richard's original email:
Peg and I had our kayaks stolen from atop our truck last night (February
14), and I would like to ask you to keep your eyes open for them, and to
spread the word beyond the "reply to all" list from our Choke Canyon trip
email. We need your help!

The two boats are: Dagger Magellan, 16'8" sea kayak, rudderless, teal blue
(greenish blue), rotomolded plastic; Necky Eliza, 15'6" sea kayak, rudderless, red/orange, rotomolded plastic.

The thieves took the four black T and G straps, but no other gear is
missing. Each boat did have a cockpit cover. The Magellan's cover is an
old one from Adirondack Outfitters in Saranac Lake, NY. The covers are
black nylon. We would truly appreciate your being alert to these boats.

Thanks in advance for keeping your eyes open. I can be contacted here on the forum or @ windknot_flies@att.net

Man, I hope you get your boats back. I hope they catch the bastages. I wonder if you can shoot them if they are stealing form your yard or do they have to come into your house before you can shoot them?

Law has been amended and you can shoot them in yard. Can get in more trouble if you move them into the house. Tampering with evidence. And you don't need a CHL to defend your home.

Those type of yaks should stand out, not common for this area.

I know it's corny but...
That karma thing has an elliptical orbit and swings back around at non regular times and knocks the stuffing out of folks who who would do that to Richard and Peggy.
In any event, it would be best for them to get their stuff back.
Not good for those that steal.

I would think that they would want to move them away from CC and into some place in close proximity to freshwater lakes or other parts of the gulf. Then the yaks would not stand out or be recognized by a family member or friend.

Thanks to Tom for posting the information on Corpus Fishing. I had posted it on TKF as well. Anyways, no luck so far. As a matter of fact, it's just gotten worse. I'll be putting up a post on another one of my good friends that had her boat stolen last night.....

BTW, I've already found a suspicious post on Craigslist about "cheap" kayaks for 150 bucks apiece. The ad went on to say that they were leaving soon.... Weird, they still haven't returned my call... Anyways, folks, please keep your peepers peeled. feel free to call me directly if you see or hear anything.

It seems like there is a ring of kayak thieves in the CC area, i recently had a kayak stolen also... an older model ocean scrambler... It is easy to spot because it has custom pvc rod holders in the front of the yak...
