Took a boat ride today just to look around, left from behind the house and drove to Bird Island. I did see some fish floating most were hardheads, mullett, pin perch, a few drum and only 3 trout (16" -20").
Talked with TP&W Biologist Todd Neahr, he was in the Padre Island Development checking water temps and looking for dead fish. Todd said he did find some fish on the botton at Marker 37 and in the Development, told me there were some snook, perch, ribbon fish and mullet. Todd seem to think the next couple of days will tell more. I hope not.
On the way back to the boat ramp I ran across 6 boats fishing in the
"Closed Water" in the development. Tried to tell them that the area was closed. No one seemed to want to listen to me.But they sure listen
to Mr. Game Warden...LOL.
I have no idea who called the Warden

| Yeah, i talked to a tpwd biologist today on base he said the water temp isnt high enough all around to make some of them float yet, so until we see the temp rise a little we wont know how many fish are dead. He also said the boat hole and deadmans is not part of the fishing ban area. |

Hahaha, way to go Capt. I hope they learned their lesson.
There are plenty of places to fish that are outside the ban area. Many of them are probably holding a decent amount of fish, and some of those spots will likely have a scrawny freezing yankee standing in near em tomorrow morning _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |

Yes, when the water temp rises, gases in the dead fish will develop, causing them to rise to the surface. _________________

TPW had two patrol boats working the ICW this afternoon. Looked like business was pretty good. _________________ E Pluribus Unum |

Did a run to south of Bird today and besides the dead baitfish no evidence of a fish kill. Did see some dead turtles though _________________ Cody |

No dead fish along the north shore of the JFK causeway by the bluff. No living fish either, or anything in between.
There was a fellow wading near us, who must have submerged his waders 3-4 times. I felt REALLY bad for him, must have froze his butt off. He stayed out and fished for some time after that too! Plenty of active bait fish in the lights the last few nights. _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |

Cripes, why'd he wear waders if he kept fishing while cold and wet anyway! _________________ Dave

| Does the cold kill the fish or is it lack of oxygen from too many fish all in the deeper, warmer water? |

The cold temperatures are what is responsible for killing/cold stunning the fish. You probably already know, but gases dissolve more readily in colder temperatures and from what I've seen at work, there is no O2 deficit in the deeper areas right now. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |
