OK. I have a question. Hopefully not in the stupid category. On the ignition controls of my 2003 200HP fuel injection Evinrude, you can depress the key to "choke" the motor. Since it is fuel injection, is there even an choke? It cranks, but will not turn over without a bit of ether. So I guess I am questioning whether the choke is working, or what other possible issues I am encountering. Fuel ball is firm. No unusual gas fumes. Any troubleshooting suggestions would be appreciated.

Not sure on the fuel injected motors but on the carb motors its a got a primer soloniod when you press that in it squirts fuel into the carbs.. There is a bypass switch on the top of it if the keyswitch isnt working to manually open it but it will flood the motor.. check out the i boats forum thats where I go when I get stumped..

I thought when the choke was depressed that it (solenoid) would make a clicking sound, but I hear nothing. I checked i boats earlier, and found one possibility - Fuel Lift Pump.

The newer chokes don't make any noise. My old mercury clicks when I choke it by turning on the key and pushing in. This is because the choke is electomagnetic. When you push the key the electo magnetic solenoid sucks up a cylinder whitch is attatched to the flaps in front of your carborators making them cover most of the opening thus sucking much more gas.

Ok,

There is no choke! some FI's were equipped with a fuel enrichment injector (basically a momentary shot of fuel to richen up the intake however most of those are gone now, the computer on your motor takes care of cold start these days, your probably needing a lift pump. get a manual and do the checks, actually I just sold my FI Evinrude and I still have the manual if you need one, I'll donate it, let me know.

They have finished building another jetty on the east side to narrow the chanel and hopefully create enough flow to keep sand from building in the mouth. The problem started when they diverted the colorado river into west bay. Here is a site with pics. The older photo's are at the bottom.

Thanks for resurrecting this post. Turns out my starter was hogging power to the "computer". No fuel lift problem after all. New starter, cleaned some connections and BAM!! At the same time, not sure about this resurrection... Very Happy

I wish I had found out about this before I bought 2 at $24.95 each from academy for my wife and I. Went to the goverment resale shop on Bolm Rd off 183. Thats where they sell all the stuff they take from passengers trying to get on a plane. They have a tub with about 200lbs of leatherman micra's for sale for $3 each. I bought 5 more because they were so cheap. You need to check them out some are older and more worn but a bunch look brand new. I have one of those in my pocket whenever I am fishing. They have a crap load of knives there too, all kinds. Probably have one of those resale shops in CC.
