Anyone seen the naval station pier recently? I know it had some damage to it a few months back. I'm making a trip down there after Thanksgiving and the night fishing is a huge part of the fishing plans. When they had the damage, they made the pier off limits. Thanks!

Long concrete one on the bay side, with the big lights.

Would have been hard to damage the big pier at NAS. There is (was) a small lighted pier next to the boat launch that might have been trashed with the ramp and the bait house. Bait now being sold in the Rec bldg.

It was damaged. Saw it with my own eyes. Those high winds from that storm back in June knocked down alot of the wooden railing, so of course the military freaked out on the safety, and closed the whole pier. Ruined my night fishing for the two nights I was down there.

Just called NAS Rec Services. Both Piers are up and operational with lights. The path to the small pier where the boat launch used to be has no lights so bring a flashlight.

The boat ramp however is another story and not a good one. They have received funding for the repair, but they don't expect it to be ready for 16-18 MONTHS. YUP, I SAID MONTHS. Only the Guberment cold take that long to repair or remove and replace a large chunck of concrete, even if you had to build a cofferdam to pump out the water so you can pour concrete where the water would be at low tide. TRULY AMAZING!! They did say that small boats (cartoppers and kayaks) can be launched at NAS from the shore and there is no charge for the launching.

Someone has to keep those "guberment officials" in line. Still can't believe 16-18 months for a RAMP. What are they building, the Ramps-ma-hal???

Thanks a bunch Foldcat. You wouldn't happen to have that number to the rec services would you? And yes, 16-18 months is ridiculous, but honestly, I'm not surprised considering it's the government.

Guys, that's freaking nuts!!! You don't have to have low water or no water to do a ramp: At our sailing club we build a form right out on the pavement or slab in front of the ramp with visqeen on the bottom. We pour and spread the concrete into the form with reinforcing wire, let it cure and then use a bulldozer to slide the sucker in after removing the forms! Cool

Myself and some friends also found out the hard way. We pulled up to the ramp at the NAS and saw the barriers in front of the boat ramp. We talked to a gentleman that worked the MWR there and he had mentiond that the Navy had sent a dive team to inspect the structure on the bottom and found that whole corner of the Naval Station was not structuraly sound. The only good news that came out of it was that the whole marina is going to be redone with covered boat slips. Again we just have to be patient and deal with the red-tape.
