Went out at sunrise to meet up with Chuck so he could show me some new grounds. Were going to head to B&R flats but decided on Lighthouse Lakes instead as the wind was blowing from the NE pretty good in the morning, and there would be more shellter. Seems like theres always a decent N wind when I fish with chuck?
Most of the day was spent throwing super spooks as we were really looking for reds on top. There was no shortage of bait activity everywhere, mullet of all sizes and some shrimp as well. No keepers to speak of but we had blowups consistantly all morning. I finished with just two small reds, a small trout, and a very big skipjack that was hooked through the dorsal fin that came screaming towards me nearly jumping in my kayak (scary ). I believe chuck finished with a few reds that were just short, and he lost a number of decent fish, including one that was probably upper slot sized.
The bites seemed to peak around 10:00. Anybody thinking of paddling lighthouse lakes for the first time should stick with somebody who knows the area or bring that paddling trail map from TPWD or get a compass/gps. You can get VERY turned around back there, especially with all the new little lagoons and coves created by the high water. Charles and I got split up and I had a lovely time finding my way back to the launch site . All said and done, a good time exploring some new (and gorgeous) fishing grounds, thanks for showin me around bud. _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |
