Get the biggest radius you can throw reliably. Color and size of mono shouldn't matter. If it is hung it is going to tear to matter what.

More important is mesh size. 1/4 for glass minnows etc..3/8 for shad, finger mullet, shrimp etc.

Make sure you get the one with the good lead weights. Don't get the crappy enviro. net with the crummy alloy weights. L

As previously stated, stay away from the alloy weighted cast nets. If not sure which one, look for anything that says environmental friendly on the box and avoid.

I noticed Academy has restocked with a bunch of these waste of money nets.

Problem with allow nets in salt water is sand and salt break down coating on allow and before you know, you have a net with no weighted base.

Of course, if you do not mind buying nets all the time, then go for it.

I have contacted Academy about this dilemma. There for some time they had a lot of good old fashioned lead weighted nets, but it appears they have returned to junk.

I look at it this way, if we do not buy them, they will change. The dollar speaks again!

As in all things, you get what you pay for in a cast net. Low cost nets SUCK!!! They don't have enough weight/weights to open well or sink fast, they are made from cheapo materials and are poorly constructed.
