Rigged with a 200HP, prop for speed and light load.........what would you think? I know it depends on a ton of factors; however, I just want a SWAG. I currently have a 12 year old Blue Wave and want a new boat. Cant decide if I want shallow (Shallow Sport) or fast (Sterling or Majek).
Thanks,

Just sayin, I fished with with a friend and his dad that knew a guy who had a 24 foot shoalwater cat with a 200 hp etec. AWSOME BOAT!!! We were cutting through some 2+ foot waves and the ride was still smooth as can be. As for speed, we ran 40 in 5in of water to pass over a flat in port lavaca. Over all, it was great. That had the best of both worlds in speed and skinny water situations. Good luck

shallowsports are not speed boats.
I'd say 46-48.4 (that way I win because Mike is over by .1 MPH.... just like the price is right)
I have a buddy with an 18 footer and a 150. it's about 40 MPH on a good day. |

or vice versa LMAO.
at any rate, shallowsport's are not about speed... they're about "shallow". |

Not to hijack the thread but I had one try to out run me the other day....
The boat was just like the one that "t" has described. As we both know...not built for speed but for shallow.

I think gunbuyer is close, cause my cousin just put a 175 on his 22' Promaster and it will do 54 mph @5400 rpm made a big difference from the 125 he had...Adios

mike... you should have raced him for pink slips!
LOL
lefty, that's another good point... they are fuel hogs.
big tunnel hull boats are just not efficient hull designs for speed/friction/fuel economy/etc. |

I know this isn't what you're asking, but you can use it as a reference. My 2007 Shallow Sport has an eTek 150 on it. I get about 38 mph and about 2.5 mph when I'm running wide open. When I'm trolling I get about 6 -8 mpg. Because it runs so shallow, I can take a lot of shortcuts to where I'm going. That saves on gas. Prior to buying the boat, I talked to the guy that builds Shallow Sports. I think his name is Rex Hudson? I asked him specifically if a 200 hp would be better than a 150 hp. He assured me that a 150 was enough. I'm sure the 200 hp will give you a higher top end, if that's what you want.

| The 200 will give you better fuel economy. Always run more HP than you need. Better hole shots, better fuel. Think of it this way, weight to hp ratio. The less the engine has to work, the better the fuel economy. |
