I am heading to Costa Rica on the July 14th for 6 days. We plan on hitting the pacific side. I know there are plenty of charter boats but would really like to try some surf fishing. It's 4 of my buddies and myself (guy trip) heading down and will probably be in the Quepos/ Manuel Antonio area for a couple of days. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Nothing is set in stone. We are gonna play it by ear and see where we end up.
Thanks,
Rob |

Hey bud, just got back from there a week ago. Did some fishing out of Herradura (through a Capt. based in Jaco). Half day trips from heradura are going for mahi, wahoo and yellowfin tuna, but fishing was slow and those we caught were small. If you are in Quepos, treat yourself to a half day or full day of sailfish. No if/ands/buts about it. One of my dads customers came back from there a month ago and had 14 sails in one day. Also, a cheaper alternative is to find a guide whos targeting rooster fish near shore along the beach and rocks. They are a BLAST! They fight light jack crevalle, are beautiful, and yummy. Quepos is the best spot on that coast, send back some pics. _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |

been to Quepos......you guys will have an absolute blast!! One of my favorite places. We did an inshore rooster fishing day and the next we did a sailfish trip on the Wave Dancer. The sailfishing was unbelievable, but we were there in March. Definitely go tour Manuel Antonio Park.

| Roosters are what I really want to focus on. I have caught quite a few billfish but have never had the opportunity to catch a rooster. I just got an 8' heavy kistler with a Revo Toro for throwing big lures. Thinking about grabbing a backpack and just spend the day cruising the shoreline looking for fish and beer vendors along the way. |

| There was an episode on the er doctors where a lady kept complaining that there was something crawling under her scalp. They sent her to the shrink. She finally went to another doctor he found a little hole and there was a worm crawling out. He started pressing her scalp and got another one out. She recently got back from Costa Rica and they said probably some kind of fly landed on her and injected her larva. So wear off insect repell. |

| Hey, been twice...both times around the Jaco area out of Los suenos. Didn't get to do any surf fishing but if you do decide to get a charter avoid ocean adventures. Also Captain Dana of the hoo's up and hoo's your daddy is excellent for roosters. I'm mad jealous of you, had the best time of my life. Have fun. |

| I did some surf fishing in Panama about 20 miles from the Costa Rica border a few years ago when I was working down there. I used fishbites and threw some artificials but only caught some kind of suckerfish on the fishbites. They have huge tide changes down there and the surf was a bit rough and dropped off fast. being by my self on a somewhat deserted beach, I was afraid to go in much more than thigh deep water. Good Luck down there. |

As far as fishing from the shoreline, Im not sure how productive it would be, at least this time of year. Water right now is very turbid near many beaches (not all though) until you get a few hundred feet offshore - its the rainy season and the rivers are dumping massive amounts of silt into the surf. Whether in a boat or on foot, plan on getting rained on. We were all over the pacific coast from Guanacaste to Dominical, and we didn't see very many fish along the shore at all. It was very different from Pacific Mexico where you could catch sierra macks and jacks from the shore with diamond jigs and spoons, the coastal water near Quepos is a pretty poluted, and the HUGE SURF between quepos and jaco is not ideal in most spots for surf casting, but it looked good for surfing. I would stick with a charter, half day, get a cheap panga, and have a blast. _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |

| Trying to squeeze in some surfing too. I figure we can try both sides if we have too. Of course theres only Roosters on the Pacific. Just FYi I went surfing yesterday at the seawall and there was lots of action in the water and the clarity wasn't that bad. Mullet were getting smashed all around me but lot's of weed. |
